On February 3, 2015 at approximately 6:00 a.m. Deputy First Class Robert Brady of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office responded to Off Site Area “B” of the Dominion LNG project, located on the west side of Cove point Road and Route 4 for the report of trespassers.

Heather Doyle, 31 of Washington D.C.

Heather Doyle, 31 of Washington D.C.

Upon arrival, Deputy Brady found that two unknown females were in the process of climbing a crane that was unoccupied. Deputy Brady and Sergeant Vladimir Bortchevsky located a female attempting to climb the crane. She later identified as Heather Doyle, 31 of Washington D.C. Doyle had climbing gear and was asked to desist. Doyle refused to comply and was arrested for trespassing and failure to obey a lawful order from Law Enforcement. While Doyle was standing next to a Calvert County Sheriff’s Office marked patrol vehicle awaiting transport to the Calvert County Detention Center, she intentionally damaged the paint on the vehicle by scraping the handcuffs she was wearing in a manner that was gouging into the vehicle’s paint. Doyle was charged with destruction of property in addition for damaging the vehicle’s paint.

A second person identified as Carling Sothoron, 28 of Baltimore Maryland was also equipped with climbing equipment and banners objecting to Fracking. Sothoron was asked to climb down off of the crane and was told that she was putting herself and officers in a dangerous situation. Deputy First Class Stephen Esposito climbed the crane, using climbing gear. Dfc. Esposito ensured that Sothoron was secured to the crane. Dave Marco from Kiewit construction responded to the scene. Mr. Marco is the Labor Relations and Security Safety Manager of this among other construction sites. After consultation with Mr. Marco and ensuring the safety of both Sothoron and Dfc. Esposito, the crane boom was lowered and Sothoron was apprehended and charged with trespassing and failure to obey a lawful order from Law Enforcement.

Both Sothoron and Doyle are currently being held at the Calvert County Detention Center awaiting a hearing before the District Court Commissioner.

  5. Anonymous on February 4, 2015 at 10:33 am

gotta love people are protesting 2-3 years after the decision was made for this expansion to happen.

Also, Fracking isn’t happening at the Lusby Dominion gas plant… it is an Import/Export facility.

    • Anonymous on February 4, 2015 at 4:40 pm

The moonbat protesters cannot grasp the concept that Dominion Cove Point is an import/export facility, or that is was there before most of them were born.

  6. anonymous on February 4, 2015 at 10:53 am

Couple of liberal losers, no doubt.

    • sam on February 4, 2015 at 12:23 pm

Will you still be saying that when the gas prices go up thanks to this “expansion” ?

      • Anonymous on February 5, 2015 at 6:59 am

        Sam=liberal DA!

      • Anonymous B on February 5, 2015 at 12:24 pm

How will the prices go up? Creating a massive storage facility could only lower prices because now they are not incurring high transportation costs to constantly refill tanks and get it to this area. It would not make any financial sense to build something that would raise the cost to a corporation or a consumer. Even if the prices do go up short term this place is creating local jobs and I don’t use natural gas anyway so I see more benefits than downsides.

      • Kevin Zeese on February 12, 2015 at 2:00 pm

That’s right this is an EXPORT terminal to provide fuel to India and China, not the US. It will raise prices here by shipping abroad. All Cove Point gets is the cancerous pollution (this is documented and admitted by Dominion), the risk of an attack (what a target, massive fireball, next to a nuclear facility and not far from DC), decrease in property values (already happening) and decrease in tourism. And, Dominion gets massive tax breaks for bringing all of this to Cove Point.

        Bravo to Carling and Heather!

I say use the crane with those idiots still on there I bet this would stop a lot of these problems

I guess you didn’t pay any attention to your mail or the County Commissioner meetings.

On April 1, 2013, Dominion Cove Point LNG, LP (Dominion)1 filed an application for authority under section 3 of the Natural Gas Act (NGA)2 and Part 153 of the Commission’s regulations3 to site, construct, and operate facilities for the liquefaction and export of domestically-produced natural gas (Cove Point Liquefaction Project) at Dominion’s existing liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal in Calvert County, Maryland.4 Dominion also seeks authority under section 7(c) of the NGA5 and Part 157 of the Commission’s regulations,6 to construct and operate facilities at its existing compressor station and metering and regulating (M&R) site in Fairfax County, Virginia, and at its M&R site in Loudoun County, Virginia (collectively, Virginia Facilities).

Why are people from outside of Calvert County doing all this protesting? Seems they are the nuttier of the protesters.

    • Kevin Zeese on February 12, 2015 at 2:04 pm

Out of towners care because this is all about fracking the Marcellus Shale which cover seven states. People in those states are already seeing their water destroyed. Farmers get notices telling them they can no longer drink their water, wash clothes or dishes in their water and must bring their water in. Their cows are getting massive tumors. Deer killed by hunters are also filled with tumors. In Pennsylvania doctors are not allowed to discuss with patients who show symptoms from the chemicals used what the chemicals are. They are gagged by the state. And, all this for methane gas which is worse for climate change than carbon!

      • Ltowntaxpayer on February 24, 2015 at 1:38 pm

I’m pretty sure there is no fracking taking place in Washington, DC or Baltimore, MD. And very few farmers or deer either. Damaging property (public or private) isn’t very smart. It just make them look whacked. Both of these women look slightly deranged which doesn’t help their cause either.

      • werwe on February 24, 2015 at 1:40 pm

I guess we should all stop farting then

  11. Anonymous on February 4, 2015 at 3:24 pm

At a minimum, Ms. Doyle should be mandated to pay restitution in getting the patrol vehicle repaired. A fine for each of them for trespassing needs to apply as well.

  12. Anonymous on February 4, 2015 at 3:30 pm

Ms. Sothoron. You are no longer a teenager. Nobody takes a 28 year old with a ring in her lip, seriously.

    • Anonymous on February 5, 2015 at 10:08 am

And Heather has 2 nose rings on one side too.

  13. Anonymous B on February 4, 2015 at 3:37 pm

Why don’t these people try and do something productive like going back to Baltimore, which is one of the top 50 most dangerous cities in the world, and protesting all of the violence and murders going on there. I bet all of those hypocrites used gas vehicles to get to the plant, heat their homes with (electric, oil, or gas), and have no idea what they are really protesting. Last year it was protesting the 1% for not creating enough jobs and now that they are bringing more jobs to the area you want to shut them down. TO the ones that got arrested, your efforts were wasted because after a day or 2 when this story slips down off the main page you and your nonsense cause will be forgotten.

    • Kevin Zeese on February 12, 2015 at 2:05 pm

There certainly is a lot to protest! You are right about that. No doubt destruction of the planet and pollution that will shorten the lives of hundreds if not thousands in Cove Point should be near the top of the list.

  14. igotsomegas on February 4, 2015 at 4:11 pm

They don’t frack at cove point, so why you making a fool of yourself.

    • Kevin Zeese on February 12, 2015 at 2:06 pm

All the gas being exported from Cove Point — if it is built — will come from fracked gas. Without export there is no fracking because they cannot make profit in the US, prices for gas are too low. They need to export it. So anyone concerned with fracking should oppose this terminal.

  15. Anonymous on February 4, 2015 at 5:14 pm

They should have just used the crane like normal. Let’s see how well the Frack Freaks can hold on.

    • Anonymous on February 5, 2015 at 1:29 pm

in other words, “Let the Frack Freaks fly?”

    • Gill on February 5, 2015 at 9:41 am

This was NOT at the actual plant but on a job site on Route 4.

  19. frank bama on February 5, 2015 at 4:58 pm

If these people want to occupy something, how about occupying a job? These losers are probably protesting the fact there are no jobs. Dominion brings jobs and now they protest that. Again, losers.

    • Kevin Zeese on February 12, 2015 at 2:07 pm

It looks like they are both already employed. Why don’t you actually think and examine why they oppose this terminal. You might also once you know the facts.

  20. Anonymous on February 6, 2015 at 9:24 am

All I want to know is where was the protesters in 2006-2009? When they expanded to 2 tanks….

    Expansion Project: 2006-2009

In August 2006, Dominion received approval from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to increase the plant’s daily output capacity from 1 billion cubic feet (Bcf) per day to 1.8 Bcf per day and expand its storage capacity from 7.8 Bcf to about 14.6 Bcf. One Bcf of natural gas is enough energy for about 3.4 million homes each day.

The expansion project was completed in 2009 and added two storage tanks, bringing the total number at the site to seven, and two electric generating units to the existing three units.

Dominion Cove Point also expanded its pipeline in Maryland to deliver more natural gas to interstate pipeline connections in Virginia. Dominion Transmission built a new pipeline, a pipeline extension, two pipelines parallel to existing lines and two compressor stations in Pennsylvania to move natural gas to customers throughout the Northeast. These pipeline projects are key to delivering new gas supplies to where they are needed in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. The Maryland project brings more winter supplies to the Mid-Atlantic region, and the Pennsylvania projects allows supplies to be stored in the summer and moved to the Northeast for use during the winter.

Wow. Most of the comments here are really ridiculous and somewhat disgusting. Shooting or killing a young woman because she has different beliefs or because she did something mildly stupid? Stereotyping them because they disagree with the decisions that politicians make or because of how they look? Seriously, get a life already instead of spewing a bunch of negativity and hatred all over this site. Should they be punished for what they did? Of course but taking violent actions against them would be just plain wrong. You should be thankful that someone in this state is actually willing to stand for a cause anymore.
