Blue Crabs Shortstop Steve Lombardozzi Signs with Nationals

BlueCrabsThe Southern Maryland Blue Crabs announce the contract of Shortstop Steve Lombardozzi has been purchased by the Washington Nationals Organization. Lombardozzi will report to the Syracuse Chiefs—AAA affiliate of the Nationals.

To this point in the 2016 season Lombardozzi leads the league with a .367 batting average and 61 hits. In addition, Lombardozzi is in the top 5 with 166 at-bats, runs scored (27), and top ten in stolen bases (8).

Prior to being signed with the Blue Crabs, Lombardozzi played for the Washington Nationals, Pittsburg Pirates, and Baltimore Orioles, while also spending time in the Cleveland Indians and Chicago White Sox Farm Systems. During his time in the Major Leagues, Lombardozzi had a .263 batting average, with 5 home runs and 52 RBIs.

“Steve has been a solid hitter and an exceptional leader in the clubhouse,” said Blue Crabs Manager Jeremy Owens. “We’ll miss him, but we are excited he is one step closer to the show.”

Lombardozzi’s contract is the first to be purchased by a Major League Organization in the 2016 season. The Blue Crabs return home for a three game set against the Long Island Ducks Friday, June 10 at 7:05 p.m.

    The Nationals are closer than Baltimore, The Redskins aren’t a Maryland team either but they are called the “Washington Redskins”. Why is there always someone who cant be happy for someone’s else’s good fortune??? Are you really that miserable??
    By the way there are a lot of Nat’s fans that live in MD & VA… So go crawl back under that rock. Negative Nancy….

      True Marylanders root for Maryland teams, if you’re that lazy to commute to Baltimore then you have issues. Plus anyone who roots for the Nationals must be a diehard Expos fan
