Melvin Tyrone Simmons, 23, of Indian Head

Melvin Tyrone Simmons, 23, of Indian Head

On Monday, October 31, 2016 at approximately 12:20 p.m., a Nissan Maxima was north on Crain Highway when the driver failed to stop for a steady red traffic signal and struck a dump truck and a passenger car turning left from Crain Highway onto Mattawoman Beantown Road.

The Maxima then struck a curb and became disabled. The driver fled the scene on foot, and a female passenger, 19, from Indian Head, was ejected.

An off-duty medic was in the area and stopped to render aid to the woman. CCSO officers assisted the medic. The woman was flown to a hospital by Maryland State Police Trooper 2 and was admitted with serious injuries.

No one else was injured.

Prior to the crash, officers responded to a business at which the occupants of the Nissan Maxima involved in the crash were suspected of stealing merchandise. After the theft, they fled in a red-colored car which was broadcast to officers. An officer responding to the theft spotted the suspects’ vehicle near St. Patricks Drive and initiated a traffic stop. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer observed a female driver and two males in the car. He also saw evidence possibly linking the suspects to the theft. In addition, the officer detected an odor of marijuana. The backseat passenger, Deonte Charles Bush, 19, of Indian Head, exited the car and was found to be in possession of marijuana. While continuing to investigate, the female driver climbed over the front seat and got into the back of the car while the front seat passenger, a 23-year-old male, slid over behind the steering wheel and fled. Officers pursued the car, but stopped the pursuit after a very short distance. The driver continued to flee north on Crain Highway for nearly a mile and a half before striking the dump truck.

Investigators have identified the driver as Melvin Tyrone Simmons, 23, of Indian Head.

Simmons has two open warrants on file. He is 5’9”, 155 pounds, and has numerous tattoos. Bush was charged, via a civil citation, with possession of marijuana.

Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Cpl. P. E. McPherson of the CCSO Traffic Operations Unit at (301) 609-3251.

Typical thug trash. It’s this type of behavior that gets you ZERO respect from the rest of society.

Sure tough guy. Whatever you say.

      • Reality on November 2, 2016 at 12:30 pm

I am not your friend, buddy.

      • Andrew on November 3, 2016 at 8:10 am

        Chase….

He called him “typical thug trash”, and said that his actions get him zero respect. If you disagree with that, and would go as far as injuring or killing someone over that type of comment, then you need to realize you’re probably a bigger piece of trash than this idiot (your friend or family?) that you’re defending.

You can threaten to harm me or anyone else that doesn’t defend this moron’s type of behavior all you want, especially with his history of theft and such. This time he ran from a cop, seriously injured his friend, left his critically injured friend behind, and injured other innocent people on the road in the process. If you have sympathy for him, then I’m not sure what to tell you because obviously you’re not at a time in your life where you’re ready to grow up and become a true adult.

I don’t care if this is your child, brother, friend…. if he’s white, black, or hispanic…… he is the definition of trash for not only his past but what he has done this time. It may be hard to believe, but there are many of us out here that don’t commit crimes (I’m guilty of doing 5-10 MPH over the speed limit on the highway… but I don’t commit any other crimes) that would land you jail time. People that live much more innocent lives are out there, and we are proud of our accomplishments and lack of run-ins with the law.

Lastly, no I personally wouldn’t say this to your face if you were to kick my ass, beat me with a bat, stab me, or shoot me over it. It’s called common sense, maybe you should get some. Not everyone who announces negative opinion on a thug is physically prepared to be able to kick their ass. People like you that support idiots like this Melvin fellow are what is wrong with this world and what is wrong with your own life. I think you need to rethink your future and start making some changes unless you want to follow in his footsteps and be a Southern Maryland “gangsta” that doesn’t work an honest living.

Two open warrants – why isn’t he in jail?!?!?!?!?!

      • Little Dookie on November 2, 2016 at 5:28 pm

Because the “code” will not allow the people in the community to snitch on him. This is probably the same turd that terrorizes them yet they will not turn him in. Pathetic.

      • Anonymous on November 3, 2016 at 8:14 am

You could get a warrant for anything, Unpaid parking tickets, child support, ect.

    • Daega on November 3, 2016 at 10:59 am

what makes matters even worse. The woman who was ejected from the car was his girlfriend . HE left her for dead. We need JUSTICE!!

  2. Anonymous on November 1, 2016 at 4:36 pm

This is what a turd looks like ladies and gentlemen.

  3. Anonymous on November 1, 2016 at 4:44 pm

No sympathy, a group of thieves that put everyone in danger and got what they deserved. I am sure momma is so proud of the 19 year old.

    • Anonymous on November 1, 2016 at 8:36 pm

Such a ignorant ass comment. Let it had been a member of your family.. dumb ass

      • Bob on November 2, 2016 at 7:13 am

Their theives, and reckless. I agree I got a brother who has done 20x’s worse guess what screw him…. not worth it

      • Anonymous on November 2, 2016 at 10:03 am

How is this an ignorant comment? Just because they are a family member means you should support their criminal ways? You should support them putting all those other lives in danger? Lets be serious. That’s what’s wrong with the world today.

      • Little Dookie on November 2, 2016 at 11:43 am

Let it have been your family that was hit by these turds. Make poor choices, suffer the consequences.

      • Andrew on November 3, 2016 at 8:30 am

Ahhhh. So you’re supposed to support members of your family regardless of crimes they commit? Is that how this works? Or is that maybe what’s broken about YOURSELF? What about the family members of the innocent people on the road that this dipsh*t you’re defending has injured?? And the personal (non-company-owned) vehicle that he hit? Some innocent person is probably without a vehicle right now, and guess who’s pocket it is going to have to come out of to get it repaired or replaced (even if it’s just a $100 deductible), and the time from work missed by occupants of both vehicles that were injured??? Does the simple fact that they weren’t killed make this a non-issue, and make this some sort of scenario where this Melvin kid shouldn’t be disrespected over? You really have the wrong mentality on life.

Let’s also talk about the friend that was ejected out of the car when he crashed it, that he just left behind to continue to flee from the cops. Someone who is apparently critically injured. Granted that person apparently had some sort of involvement in this little crime spree, he was more concerned about not going to jail over this than his friend’s life. Did you realize that?????

If this was a member of MY family or a friend, you may find this hard to believe, but I can wholeheartedly say that I would absolute NOT be supporting them. This is far from the first time he has had a run-in with the law over theft and other crimes. Criminals have children, parents, grandparents, siblings, friends….. that simple fact doesn’t mean they deserve respect and people shouldn’t be expressing that he should rod in prison for his actions. If it were up to family and friends no criminals would be in jail– how’s that for logic???????

Get an education, an honest job, and make changes in your life before you end up becoming a person like those you stand behind when they are in the wrong.

    • Anonymous on November 2, 2016 at 12:00 am

What type of ignorant ass individual says something like that? A girl is fighting for her life. Regardless of the fact that she was involved in a theft, she doesn’t deserve to be barely hanging on to life. But I bet you’re a Caucasian person that is just happy that a group of black people got in trouble. I bet if it was one of your family members you would’ve been defending them.

      • Anonymous on November 2, 2016 at 6:43 am

Correction, a thug is fighting for her life. She is a POS criminal, and got what she deserved.

      • Brian on November 2, 2016 at 7:59 am

The only thing that would have been better is the dillhole exiting the car with a weapon and being dispatched. This jackazz has been on the pages of SMNewsnet more times than I can count.

      • HClinton on November 2, 2016 at 8:01 am

        Another Race hustler…Truth hurts

      • Anonymous on November 2, 2016 at 8:06 am

What type of person says something like that? Someone who is fed up with criminals. I don’t care who they are or what race they are. You said what if it was my family member, well I have a question for you; what if it was your family member who was taking a walk and then taken out because these idiots decided to rob a place and run from the cops. Years ago it was my family member. I have a cousin who ran from the cops, crashed into a car, and crippled the woman that was driving in the other car. I have no pity for my cousin, I save my sympathies for the woman he crippled. He and I were good friends a long time ago but I was angry at the system when they let him out of prison early. He deserved more then what he got and these “ignorant ass” individuals deserve everything they get. If you feel so bad for them you could always bail them out and let them stay with you to keep an eye on them. Or are you just one of those people that likes to sympathize with criminals from afar.

        • Anonymous on November 2, 2016 at 10:19 pm

WOW THEY STOLE U ACT LIKE THE ROBBED A BANK OR KILLED SOMEONE AND DIDNT GET AWAY STFU ! Y’all smoke weed , y’all speed on the road ? The breaking the law plz stfu ! Thank u n yea we Dnt care bout the past that’s old

          • Anonymous on November 3, 2016 at 7:38 am

I don’t do and have never done any of that. Why is it that criminals always think everyone is a criminal? That is sad and you need to get some new friends. As for the trash in this article, just because they got lucky this time and didn’t take someone out doesn’t mean they didn’t put everyone at risk that day. They didn’t care about the people on the road that day so I could care less about the bad stuff that happens to them. Respect is earned and these idiots don’t deserve anyone’s respect.

          • Little Dookie on November 6, 2016 at 4:49 pm

Unless of course they stole from you. Then it would be different, right?

      • Brian on November 2, 2016 at 1:10 pm

“she doesn’t deserve to be barely hanging on to life”…wrong she absolutely deserves it. She put herself, willfully, in this position. Hopefully, with grace, she will live and make much better life choices from this point forward.

        • Little Dookie on November 2, 2016 at 5:29 pm

          I’m guessing not.

  4. Anonymous on November 1, 2016 at 11:14 pm

I’ll be glad when he’s caught and they need to fry his ass

  5. Darlene Johnson on November 2, 2016 at 7:00 am

Stupid doesnt come in a color!!!!! It’s so sad ,this girl may not make it!!!!!How about a Prayer for her. Instead of race card!!!!Like I said,Stupid has no Color!!!!!!

    • Reality on November 2, 2016 at 12:32 pm

      Most intelligent comment so far.

    • Jack Wagon on November 3, 2016 at 8:56 am

Pray that if she makes it, she doesn’t steal anymore?

  6. Truth Teller on November 2, 2016 at 8:22 am

Can’t say I feel sorry for any of them. Their parents are probably even worse than they are. Hope the girl recovers and gets scared straight from this. Hope the coward thug who ran instead of helped his so-called ‘friend’ gets the azz beatin’ he deserves. I hope the ‘Chase’ kid who commented earlier, tries to buck up to the wrong person too, sounds like he needs a little attitude adjustment as well.

  7. Anonymous on November 2, 2016 at 4:06 pm

His pictures screams…”look at me, I’m just dumb, I’m dumb as He!!”

Better be careful. Chase aint having none of that!

  8. Anonymous on November 2, 2016 at 5:31 pm

This was a horrific accident. My husband was driving the dump truck that he plowed into. He as screwed us up alot as right now he can not work and he is the bread winner.

    • Christie on November 2, 2016 at 9:35 pm

Remember, do not vote democrat next time. This a$$hat has 2 open warrants because some liberal judge thought he deserved another chance.

    • Andrew on November 3, 2016 at 7:17 am

If this was truly your husband then I’m very sorry to hear and hope he is OK and anyone else from the other car that may suffered injuries is doing OK. It’s amazing that people actually defend this type of act with, “What if it was your family member that committed the crime???”. Sad, ignorant world we live in when they can’t realize other innocent people are a victim of their stupid actions, and the INNOCENT are the ones that deserve sympathy, not the criminals.

  9. AliceW on November 2, 2016 at 7:14 pm

If they would put crossing arms at all intersections these crashes with hard dump trucks would be elimated. Running yellow lights would also be solved.

  10. Jen on November 3, 2016 at 2:29 am

I went to school with her. She’s a good person, just the wrong boyfriend. I prays she makes it through. Hopefully she will and will pursue her career as a makeup artist. No one cares about race. If she was apart of the theft, shame on her and the boys. If she wasn’t and was just along for the ride, shame on the boys. He’s ignorant, he shouldn’t of ran from the police & then maybe she’d be okay, so she is barely living while his stupid ass is running and is ok.

    • diamond on November 3, 2016 at 8:34 am

All of them are guilty of a crime and all of them should be punished for each role they played,So dont blame the boy-friend nice people steal, break the law , smoke weed, work , go to school and ect. i pray that she recover but i have no sympathy for none of them.

It’s funny how ppl can have such an high opinion on ppl they don’t know. One thing ppl are right about is Melvin. He isnt the greatness person, however ppl have to understand that mental illness is real. This guy suffer from retardation. I know that there shouldn’t be any excuses for his behavior but it’s evident that this was a person who was troubled. He was bullied in school for his retardation and as he got older he started to act out in ways that his parents cannot control. Also people can not say that the parents of these kids were bad parents. Everyone who are parents know that you can raise your children as best as you can but that was still do not deferred them from committing crime. The girlfriend I really feel bad for. She is a victim of domestic violence. Here it is a 19 year old girl is dating a twenty-three-year-old man who brainwashes her into doing things that he will benefit from I really feel bad for her. So many young girls out here searching for love in all the wrong places thinking that if they become that down as bich that the guy would love them more and it’s not the case. LOok he let her at the scene. If I was one of the victims in the other car and someone would have told me the truth behind it all and how this girl was suffering from domestic violence I would forgive it all and I will want Justice for her. Those were adults with childlike minds. This generation is just trying to grow up too fast.

    • Anonymous on November 4, 2016 at 7:33 am

Don’t care, they put everyone in danger that day. They obviously knew right from wrong since they ran. When they eventually kills some innocent person it doesn’t make them less dead due to their diminished mental capacity or family troubles. The family of the deceased doesn’t grieve less because he is “retarded” and the others had a bad family life. If he is that mentally challenged then he should have been watched or monitored by his caretakers.

  13. Anonymous on November 14, 2016 at 6:41 pm

Pause, how can y’all put this whole situation on him ? He did not put a gun up to this girl head , she KNEW exactly what they was going to do because it isn’t the first time they went and stole together. I like to look at this situation like they really thought they was Bonnie and Clyde. It’s amazing how y’all can put down a young man you barely know. Did you ever sit and think that maybe she knew who this guy was before she dated him but because she fell in love with his words she didn’t care about the disabilities he suffer from. Did you really sit and analysis this situation? Or did you automatically pull the race card. Well , if you want to be technical she is just as guilty as him, she had an opportunity to get out of the car along with the third person. Instead , she wanted to be a ride or die chick and climb out the DRIVER SEAT to the back SEAT while Melvin decided to climb over to the driver seat and pull off. Right there tells you , she was with the whole situation and she should be charged just as much as him. Yes I’m sorry about what happened to her but that’s exactly what she gets for not having a mind of her own. She drove from the mall let’s not forget that so she knew what she was doing. In fact, she wasn’t even suppose to be there so with that being said she knew but she still wanted to do it anyway because like the others mentioned she brainwashed. But that’s not an excuse to steal , right is right and wrong is wrong. I really hope she doesn’t come out and go back to him , but news flash most likely she well. Lastly, do me a favor and stop talking bad about this man he just need that extra love and push that he never received so his mind isn’t all the way together. Charge her right along with him if you want to be fair because I can promise you he didn’t make her do anything she wanted to.
