Dozens of events have been planned by schools throughout the Archdiocese of Washington to celebrate Catholic Schools Week, January 27 – February 2, 2013. This annual celebration highlights the contributions of Catholic schools through Masses, open houses and activities for students, families, parishioners and the community at large. The Archdiocese of Washington is home to 97 archdiocesan and independent Catholic schools, educating nearly 30,000 students in Washington, DC and Calvert, Charles, Montgomery, Prince George’s and St. Mary’s counties in Maryland. Included below are some of the events that are happening at schools in Southern Maryland.

Time: A goal of 1,000 cans of soup will be collected at Mass to support area food pantries, and students will be greeters and speakers at Mass.
St. Peter Catholic School, 3310 St. Peter’s Drive, Waldorf
Students to attend each of the Masses in uniform and will help as greeters
10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.: School open house and reception
Monday, January 28th

9:30 a.m.-Noon: Students will make Meals in a Bag accompanied by a student-made prayer card to go to those in need through food pantries in Charles County.

Time: “Rock For Faith” — Middle school students will bring rocking chairs and a can of soup for admission. The goal is to collect 1,000 cans to benefit local food pantries.
