August 28, 2013

bus accident0012On Wednesday August 28th, 2013 at approximately 9:51am, Troopers from the Maryland State Police La Plata Barrack responded to Southbound Rt 301 at Billingsley Rd, in White Plains, for the report of a motor vehicle collision involving an occupied school bus.

Preliminary investigation revealed a flatbed tow truck  was slowing to a stop, for a solid RED arrow, in the left turn lane traveling from Southbound Rt 301 to Northbound Billingsley Rd. The school bus transporting 20 juvenile 8th grade students, attending Calverton School, was traveling Southbound on Route 301 and entered the turn lane to travel north on Billingsley Rd. The operator of the school bus applied the brakes and was unable to stop before rear-ending the tow truck. Damage sustained from the collision covered the right front bumper / corner of the school bus and the left rear corner / bed area of the tow truck.

Troopers from the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division responded to conduct a post crash investigation of both commercial vehicles. Results of that investigation have not been finalized at this time.

As a result of the collision injuries were sustained by Jennifer Mcaneny, and 2 juvenile students. All three (3) subjects had non life threatening injuries and were transported to University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center by ambulance, for treatment. The remaining students were escorted onto a separate school bus and taken to their respective destinations.

This investigation is still actively being investigated and any witnesses are urged to contact Trooper J. Harrod #6162 of the Maryland State Police La Plata Barrack. He can be reached at 301-392-1200.
