Hundreds of Southern Maryland residents MOVE to fight Alzheimer’s on Saturday, September 21
WHAT: The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the nation’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer care, support and research.
The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s is an all-age, all-ability event held in 600 communities nationwide, uniting millions to raise funds and awareness in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease. Participants will learn more about Alzheimer’s disease, advocacy opportunities, clinical trial enrollment, and the Association’s support programs and services, and will join in a meaningful tribute ceremony to honor those affected by Alzheimer’s.
In 2012, more than 1,000 people representing 106 teams participated in our Walks in Solomons and in Waldorf, raising $133,556. As of September 18, 731 walkers representing 98 teams have registered to help reach this year’s goal of $166,346 for care and support of those affected by Alzheimer’s and research to advance the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of the disease, currently the nation’s sixth leading cause of death and the only cause of death among the top ten causes in the United States without an identified way to prevent, cure or even slow its progression.
Participation in Walk to End Alzheimer’s is free. Walkers are encouraged to raise funds. The Walk route is one mile and can be repeated for those wanting a longer route. For more information and/or to register, visit www.alz.org/nca or call 800.272.3900. Walk-up registrations the morning of the events are welcome.
