Robert (Buddy) Eugene Boswell, 76,

Robert (Buddy) Eugene Boswell 76 of Brandywine MD passed away peacefully at home on May 27, 2026.  On October 6, 1949, Buddy was born in Cheverly, MD to Richard Eugene and Mildred Asmussen Boswell.

In 1966 Buddy joined the Baden Volunteer Fire Department and maintained active status until the time of his death.  Buddy was a dedicated member, and held many positions within the fire department, to include but not limited to Chief, President and Hall Rental Manager.  In later years the department and community would refer to him as “Mr. Buddy”

In 1997 Buddy retired from the Prince Georges County Government as a Chief Crew Supervisor in charge of The Traffic Operations Division for the Department of Transportation.

Life outside of the Fire Department included being married to the love of his life Shirley Hall Boswell for 57 years.  They had one child Wendy Boswell Small in 1973.  Buddy was a dedicated family man that not only worked for the county, but he was also a tobacco farmer.   He enjoyed playing softball, horseshoes, playing cards with his family and friends, playing slots machines, and simply spending time with those he loved.  In Buddy’s spare time, when not at the firehouse, he was a member of the Marlboro Moose and the Sons of the American Legion.

Buddy is proceeded in death by his parents, brother Ricky Boswell, Nephew Gary Cook, and Best Friend Mark Van Tassel.  He is survived by his wife Shirley Boswell, daughter Wendy Small (Richard), sisters Doris Hall (Tony) and Kathy Boswell, brothers Donnie Boswell, and Wayne Boswell, grandsons Steven Prather Jr. (Brooke) and Robert Baden III (Victoria), great granddaughters (his pride and joy) Scarlett Prather and Skylar Prather, and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers:  Steven Prather Jr, Robert Baden III, Richard Small, Garett Francingues, Jimmy Francingues and Richie Smith.   Honorary Pallbearers David Hall, Rusty Watson, Bobby Hedrick, Charles Dove, Bowie Armiger, Dick Riess and Ernie Riess

Services will be held on a later date at the Baden Volunteer Fire Department, 16608 Brandywine Rd Brandywine MD 20613.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Baden Volunteer Fire Department or the Sons of the American Legion.
