October 27, 2014

CCSO Logo 2013On Saturday, October 25, at 12:55 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to the intersection of Poplar Hill Road and St. Peter’s Church Road in Waldorf for the reported motor vehicle crash.

The investigation revealed Ruby Ellen Marshall, 85, of Brandywine was driving a Honda CRV north on Poplar Hill Road and attempted to turn onto St. Peter’s Church Road but failed to yield the right of way to a southbound Toyota Rav4. The vehicles collided in the intersection. Marshall and the driver of the Toyota—a 68-year-old Waldorf woman—displayed minor injuries at the scene of the crash and were transported to the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center (CRMC) for treatment. A passenger in the Toyota, a 19-year-old Waldorf man, was uninjured.

Doctors at CRMC determined Marshall’s injuries were more severe than they originally appeared.

Marshall was subsequently flown to Prince George’s Hospital Center for further treatment. However, the Charles County Sheriff’s Office was notified later that evening that Marshall died as a result of her injuries.

Cpl. B. Saunders of the CCSO’s Traffic Operations Unit is investigating the crash.

Good Patient assessment Waldorf EMS. When you have an elderly patient always think of the worse.

I believe this lady should have never been behind the wheel of a vehicle at 85 years old no matter what. Very sad. Prayers to the family.
