Emma PearceEmma Elnora Pearce, born January 20, 1927 in McKenney, VA to the late Earl and Cora Taylor. She passed away Friday, October 24, 2014 at Southern Maryland Hospital Center in Clinton, MD.

Momma Emma, as she was affectionately referred to, was the second of eight children. Their parents raised their children to always honor God and to respect others. She moved to Washington, D.C. at an early age and soon afterwards met and married Owen Walker. From that marriage came four sons, Jerry, Larry, Theodore and Vincent. She later married Lawrence Pearce and from this union came three children, Lawrence Jr., Patricia and Angela. Jeannie was her eldest Child. Momma Emma has been blessed with 34 Grandchildren, 44 Great-grand children, 7 Great-Great-grand children, with two on the way and a host of nieces and nephews.

Until the late eighties, Momma Emma’s extensive work career at the US Department of Commerce and the US General Services Administration, expanded over several decades and often boasts of how she started working at an early age, fifteen to be exact. She strongly believed in education and that everyone should take pride in whatever task God has given them. Up until the day of her passing, Momma Emma resided in Waldorf, MD at Genesis- Waldorf Center where she spent her final days reading scriptures, listening to televised sermons and listening to her collection of Gospel CDs. She attended Crescent Ridge DayCare Center in Fort Washington until 2013, where she enjoyed various activities offered at the Center and loved to lead the Choir formed for special ‘occasions. She was a founding member of The New Community Church of God in Christ where she had a loving church family and attended church services until 2013 whenever her health permits.

Momma Emma was preceded in death by her parents Cora and Earl Taylor; husband Lawrence Pearce, siblings: Rosa Mae Hawkes, Earl Taylor, Jr. , Geneva Boone, Charlie Taylor, John Henry Taylor; Children: Jerry Walker, Larry Walker, Vincent Walker, Jean Weatherby and Angela Pearce-Young, a devoted friend, Richard Taylor. Momma Emma is survived by sisters Mary Groves of Riverdale, MD and Gloserine Bradsher of White Plains, MD; sons Theodore Walker of District Heights, MD, Lawrence Pearce (Onley) of Frederick, MD and daughter Patricia Green (Lee Hardwick) of Fort Washington, MD and a host grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Family and friends will unite on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at 10:00 am until time of service 11:00am at New Community Church of God in Christ, 12435 Mattawoman Dr, Waldorf, MD 20601. Interment immediately following at Heritage Memorial Cemetery, Waldorf, MD.
