June 29, 2012

On Thursday, June 28 at 4:09 p.m.,  fire and rescue crews were dispatched to report of a working house fire in the 5000 block of Timber View Lane in St. Leonard.

Crews  arrived on scene to discover a two-story single family home with heavy fire showing from the second floor and the roof of the home.

Investigation revealed the fire was determined to be accidental due to improperly discarded smoking materials on the deck of the home. The fire was discovered by one of the occupants who alerted the other family members. A neighbor, who also noticed the fire, entered the home and helped one of the occupants get out of the house to safety. There were no injuries as a result of the fire. According to neighbors two dogs and bird perished in the blaze.

Over 40 firefighters from St. Leonard, Prince Frederick, Solomons and Huntington all responded to the call.

Damage to the home is estimated to be $150,000. Smoke alarms were present and activated properly.
