CPO William EssickCPO William Dorsett “Bill” Essick, USN (Ret.), 78 of Hollywood, MD passed away on December 27, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. Born June 21, 1936 in Lexington, NC, he was the son of the late Harvey Essick and Mary Dorsett Essick.

On August 19, 1972, Bill married his beloved wife, Sharon Sue Beberniss in San Diego, CA. Together they celebrated 42 wonderful years of marriage, and had three daughters and one son. Bill enlisted into the United States Navy in 1953 and served in Heavy Attack, Fighter and Helicopter Squadrons. He served in air groups deployed on the USS Saratoga, Franklin Roosevelt, Forrestal, Independence and New Orleans. He retired as a Chief Petty Officer after 20 years of dedicated service. Then he joined the Civil Service work force at North Island, CA. He supported many areas over his career as Engineering Technician, Statistical Analyst, APML for the J52, Detailed Analysis for F14, F/A-18 Aircraft. After transferring to NAVAIR, Patuxent River, MD, he worked as a Logistics Management Specialist as APML on the MH53 Helicopter, T64 Engine, and P-3 ABFC program as Deputy Program Manager. Bill headed up a successful three year project that launched the MMF Operational site in Elefsis, Greece.

He retired in 1993 after serving a combined 44 years of service to the Navy and Civil Service. Bill truly loved his four children, and was so very proud of their successes; relatives and very special long-time friends, Larry Adams (Sharyn Adams), Bob Poe (Cathy), Joe Purcell (Sharon) and the Schmidt’s; and many other special friends and neighbors. He was always the life of parties, sharing many of his experiences and stories. Bill loved feeding and watching the birds, squirrels, deer and his two cats.

Bill is survived by his wife of 42 years Sharon; his children, Linda Miehe (Darren) of Las Vegas, NV, Shirley Gray (Bryan) of Fresno, CA, Nancy Wallis (David) of Kemp, CA, and Timothy Essick of Port Tobacco, MD; his brother, Garland (Mildred); sister-in-laws, Nancy Essick and Jean Essick; nephew, Glenn (Lora); his grandchildren, Ben Christensen, Brian Christensen, Brandon Christensen, Joshua Hoover, Tina Miehe, and Kelly Miehe; great grandchildren, Sarah, Lucas and Cali; and great-great grandchildren, Echo and Draven. In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by his sisters, Ruby McGuire, Lillian Sipes, Elaine Walser, and Doris Hedrick; and his twin brothers, Boyd Essick and Bruce Essick.

Family will receive friends for Bill’s Life Celebration on Wednesday, January 14, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with a funeral service celebrated by Reverend Joe Orlando at 12:00 p.m., at the Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A., 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, MD 20650. Interment will follow at Maryland Veteran’s Cemetery, 11301 Crain Highway, Cheltenham, MD 20623.
