Another Calvert Landmark, Country Docks Burns to the Ground

October 11, 2011

Maryland State Fire Marshall’s are investigating a second commercial building fire in less than 24 hours in Calvert County.

Over 40 firefighters from both Calvert and Charles County responded to old Country Docks Restaurant/Bar located at 6992 Hallowing Point Road in Barstow on the Calvert waterfront right by the boat ramp and the Rt. 231 bridge on Tuesday, Oct.11 shortly after 2 a.m.

Crews arrived on the scene to find heavy fire showing from the structure. Firefighters worked through the early morning to put out hot spots and overhaul. Traffic along Rt. 231 is not being affected.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

This fire comes on the heals of the 2 a.m. fire at Abner’s Crab House on Monday, Oct. 10 in Chesapeake Beach, which also remains under investigation at this time.

I am sorry for the fire, but I hardly considered the rundown abandoned property a landmark. It had it’s moments in the sun, but hardly a landmark. Still sorry it happened, ecspecially under the questionable circumstances.
