Mary “Jenny” Genevieve Dyer Baden, 90

March 31, 2015

Mary BadenMary “Jenny” Genevieve Dyer Baden, 90 of Catonsville, MD was the youngest of five children born to Julian and Beatrice Dyer on Thanksgiving Day, 1924 in Dentsville, MD.

She married Charles Norwood Baden from Baden, MD on June 14, 1947. She is survived by her children, Priscilla Ann Baden of Catonsville, MD, Edna Beatrice Baden of Carova Beach NC, Charles Norwood Baden, Jr. of Nederland, CO and Edward Clyde Baden of Arlington, WA, her daughter-in-laws, Donna and Tam Baden, and her grandchildren, Charles Norwood Baden, III of Santa Monica, CA, Heather Genevieve Baden of Boulder, CO and Grayson Helen Baden of Seattle, WA.

Jenny lived in Southern Maryland for 85 years before moving to Catonsville, MD. She enjoyed the simple rural life while canning vegetables, making dandelion wine and raising her family. In 1961, she began a career selling Avon Products and became District Sales Manager for Avon in 1964. After retiring in 1981, she volunteered for Charles County, organizing volunteers to call the lonely and infirmed. She also dedicated thousands of hours making “Yo-Yo” Spreads for St. Catherine’s and St. Ignatius-Hilltop parishes in Southern Maryland and the Whalehead Club Museum in Corolla, NC.

In 2009, she relocated to Charlestown Independent Living Retirement Community where she started the first Canasta Club, which is still active today. She was never one to sit idly; even when poor eyesight prohibited her from many of the activities she enjoyed all of her life. Her reputation for “walking” inspired many.

The family would like to thank the nurses, aides and activity staff at Charlestown Assisted Living and Continuing Care for the loving, supportive care they gave Jenny during the last two years of her life.
