Fire Destroys St. Leonard Home

Maryland State Fire Marshalls are investigating a house fire in St. Leonard that has left a local family displaced.

On Wednesday, Nov. 14 around 3:26 p.m., fire and rescue crews were alerted to report of a working house fire in the 3700 block of Williams Wharf Road. Crews arrived on scene to discover heavy fire in the basement of a rambler style single family home.

Investigation revealed the fire was determined to be accidental due to an electrical malfunction in the basement laundry room. The fire was discovered by the home owner, who alerted other family members and called 911 as everyone escaped unharmed. There were no reported injuries as a result of the fire.

Over 35 firefighters from St. Leonard VFD, Solomons Island VFD, Prince Frederick VFD, Huntingtown VFD all responded to the scene.

Smoke alarms were present and activated properly.

Damage amount is estimated to be $75,000.00.
