UPDATE: No Charges yet in Fatal Hit and Run Accident

792UPDATE 1/7/2016 @ 8:30 a.m.: Police served a search warrant at a home on Town Creek Drive in connection to the the hit and run that killed Darrell Fredrick Weatherly, age 50 of Great Mills.

A 19-year-old woman is thought to be the operator of the Hyundai Santa Fe that the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office had placed a lookout for on January 4.

Police questioned the woman, but so far no charges have been filed against her.

SMNEWSNET was able to obtain a photo of the Santa Fe thought to be involved in the accident, the suv appeared to have little or no visible damage to the front end of the vehicle.

UPDATE 1/4/2016 @ 12:15 p.m.: On January 3, 2016, at 5:48 p.m., deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Three Notch Road and Mercedes Drive in California, for the report of a serious motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian.

When they arrived on the scene, police and EMS discovered Darrell Fredrick Weatherly, age 50 of Great Mills, had succumbed to his injuries. The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Collision Reconstruction Unit assumed the investigation.

The investigation revealed Weatherly was operating a bicycle when an unknown vehicle struck him, subsequently ejecting him from the bicycle. The unknown vehicle, which is believed to be a 2010 or 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe, fled the scene.

Evidence suggests the vehicle should have damage to the front end, which may include the bumper, side view mirror, and hood.

1/3/2016: Southbound Three Notch Road at Chancellors Run Road was shut down for a fatal collision for several hours.

On Sunday, January 3, 2016, at approximately 5:50 p.m., police and rescue personnel responded the scene of a motor vehicle accident involving a bicycle.

The accident is reported to be in the southbound lanes of Three Notch Road in the area of Mercedes Drive (Just South of Chancellors Run Road) .

Firefighters on the scene confirmed the cyclist deceased.

No word yet on the identity of the cyclist or the cause of the crash.

The striking vehicle was reported to have fled the scene.
