Finley was taken in as a stray by animal control luckily; he was saved by GRRSM and put into a loving foster home. Many people have remarked Finley reminds them of Max, the sweet dog from The Grinch and once we have gotten to know Finley we learned, he has the biggest Golden heart. Finley came into rescue at 29 pounds and very emaciated, his coat was so dirty and matted it had to be shaved off. Here is recent information from Finley’s foster Mom.

Health: Finley has had a thorough vet check. He is up to date on vaccinations as well as monthly heartworm and flea/tick prevention. He will be neutered, microchipped and have his teeth cleaned before adoption. His primary goal has been to gain weight before having these procedures. Finley has an under-bite that does not appear to cause him any issues. Finley has a malformed left front leg. It has been examined by a vet and by an orthopedic specialist. Both believe it was congenital or happened at an early age. Either way, they say he has completely adapted to it. It causes him no pain or issues. They say it is as effective as any other dog’s leg. Neither vet would consider doing corrective surgery because they say it could cause complications for him and he has none now. It is one of the things that make Finley special. Finley is taking an inexpensive over-the-counter Iron supplement for Anemia. This will most likely not be needed long term as he reaches a healthy weight.

Personality: Perfection! Finley is sweet, loving, mellow and kind. He adores people and wants nothing other than to be with them. He leans in when being pet and groans with happiness. He loves children and is always excited to meet new people. He is curious and happy- he trots along with an ever-wagging tail wherever he goes!

Interaction with dogs: Finley is fostered with 2 dogs. He gets along perfectly with both (a young male and an older female). He is very excited to meet new dogs. He is submissive and completely non-aggressive with food or in any other capacity.

Interaction with cats: Unknown.

Interaction with children: Finley is fostered with 3 children- he is loving and kind. He is very mellow and sweet meeting their friends too. He does not jump, bark or try to take food from them. He genuinely enjoys being with them.

Fence requirements: Fenced in yard preferred so Finley can explore and enjoy the sunny days. He does stay nearby- he has no desire to wander far from his people.

Leash manners: Finley walks well on a leash. He does not pull and loves to go on adventures!

Exercise Requirements: Finley is low key and mellow. He is very easy to care for- a few walks a day or time in the back yard and he will be a happy guy!

Available date: Finley will be available once he is neutered which should be in the next week or two.

A DNA test has been submitted to determine Finley’s breed mix.

Adoption Fee: $250 includes neuter, treatment of any health issues to date, leash, collar, rescue tag, a one-month supply of flea/heartworm prevention and the food he has been eating. (Merrick dry and canned) For more information on Ripley, please contact or call 855-477-3728.

A little bit of breed information:
Golden Retrievers are sturdy, medium to large sized dogs. They are loveable, well-mannered, intelligent dogs. They are easy to train and always patient and gentle with children. They are devoted and self-assured family dogs. Golden Retrievers love to please their owners, so obedience training can be very rewarding.

“He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion.”
