Blue Crabs Score Two in the Eighth and Win the Finale

BlueCrabsSouthern Maryland has matched their largest winning streak of the year as they defeat the New Britain Bees by the 4-3 final on Thursday night. With the win the Blue Crabs have now rattled off three wins in a row and are 3-1 on this current homestand.

Former Blue Crab Craig Maddox got the scoring started in the top of the first with an RBI single to right. Anthony Hewitt stepped to the plate and ripped a homerun over the wall in left in the top of the fifth to bring the score to 2-0 New Britain. The Bees would also go on to add a run in the fifth to make it 3-0.

In the bottom of the fifth, Gary Brown’s sacrifice fly drove in Jon Dziomba to put the Blue Crabs on the board. Zach Wilson’s RBI single in the very next inning cut the lead to 3-2. RHP Grady Wood came on in relief in the eighth and put two runners on. Jamar Walton stepped to the plate and pull a single to right field to score the tying run Bryant Nelson from second. The next hitter D’Arby Myers singled past the third baseman Jovan Rosa to give the Blue Crabs the 4-3 lead.

In the ninth, Cody Eppley came out of the pen and recorded the save as the Bees left the tying run in scoring position. On the evening, New Britain left eight runners on base, and five of them in scoring position.

The Lancaster Barnstormers come to town next to take on Southern Maryland. Game one will take place tomorrow at Regency Furniture Stadium at 7:05.
