James “Rex” Wood, 63, of Brandywine, MD, passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2016, with his family by his side. He was the loving husband, of 30 years, to Debbie Wood. Rex was born on October 26, 1952, in Washington, D.C., the 11th child (the baby) of the late Lawrence G. and Mary Helen Wood.
He was preceded in death by brothers: Ronnie and Dennis. Rex is survived by daughters; Diana Estevez (Pat), Michelle Messick, Lauren and Erin; sisters: Mary Doris Junta, Betty Jean Mundie, Fay Adriani (Paul), Phyllis Murdza and Donna Rector (Gerald); brothers: Larry, David (Joyce) and Leslie (Janet); grandchildren, Adriana, Patrick, Mason and Amiya, and many nieces and nephews.
He graduated from Suitland Senior High School, class of 1970, with many dear friends he still had at the time of his passing. Rex worked at several Auto Parts Stores for over 30 years. Whenever a relative or friend had a problem with their car, truck or SUV, Rex was always willing to give advice, saying that problem or sound with your vehicle may be “this or that.” He would not only help, by getting the correct parts for your vehicle, he would put them on.
He loved watching all sports: the Redskins (his favorite), baseball games and “March Madness”. He had started playing golf before health issues developed. He liked a cold Pabst Blue Ribbon beer, while eating steamed crabs or shrimp, when watching a game. He loved “tinkering” in his garage, working on his ’67 Pontiac GTO. He will be remembered by special friends: Gus DeValle, Bob Gagnon and Gary Seek.
Rex received a heart transplant in October 1999. Doctors said, at the time, this would give him 10 more years of a happy, blessed life. Well, we had 6 years, 6 months more of his joyous life following those 10 years.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 6, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., with prayers at 7 p.m., at the Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, 30195 Three Notch Road (Rte. 5), Charlotte Hall, MD 20622.
Memorial Contributions may made to: Washington Regional Transplant Consortium 619 Little River Turnpike #900, Annandale, VA 22003.
