Coast Guard Medevacs Cruise Ship Passenger Near Point Lookout

The Coast Guard medevaced a 71-year-old woman suffering a possible cardiac event from a cruise ship approximately 8-miles off Point Lookout, Maryland, Sunday.

A crewmember aboard the cruise ship Carnival Pride contacted watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Maryland-National Capital Region via satellite phone to request assistance at 3:42 a.m.

A 45-foot Response Boat-Medium search and rescue crew from Coast Guard Station St. Inigoes was dispatched to assist the woman. Coast Guard crewmembers took the woman aboard and delivered her to local EMS for transport to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown, Maryland.

“We are happy that we could help,” said Petty Officer 3rd Class Diane Kelly, a member at Station St. Inigoes. “Training year-round helps us to respond to these situations as soon as possible. Our crew was more than prepared to assist this woman in her time of need.”
