Fire that Destroyed Garage at Upholstery Shop in Hollywood Ruled Accidental

On March 3, 2018, at approximately  at 3:15 p.m., a passerby reported a fire inside of the work bay area of a one story commercial building at 24484 Mervell Dean Road, in Hollywood.

Fifty firefighters from the Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department and surrounding departments arrived on scene to find heavy fire and smoke showing. The fire was brought under control in 10 minutes.

Investigation revealed the cause of the fire to be accidental.

While replacing the fuel sending unit in an automobile gasoline tank, a spark ignited the gasoline fumes in the work bay causing fire to the building.

An employee sustained minor burns to his hands during the incident, and was transported to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital where he was treated and released.

The overall cost of damage from the fire to Anthony’s Upholstery is estimated to be approximately $230,000.
