On Sunday, October 25, 2020, at approximately 11:25 p.m., firefighters from Bay District, NAS Patuxent River, and Valley Lee responded to 46684 Yorktown Road in Lexington Park, for the reported house on fire.
Crews arrived on the scene to find a two story residence with smoke and fire showing from the first floor.
Firefighters from Bay District and NAS Patuxent River arrived on the scene in under 3 minutes and immediately made entry to find an active fire in the kitchen with extensions to a surrounding room, walls and ceiling. Firefighters rescued three cats from inside the residence, with one cat escaping through the front door. Two cats were still unaccounted for.
Emergency medical personnel from the Lexington Park Volunteer Rescue Squad along with next door neighbors provided oxygen and aid to the four cats removed from the residence.
The Maryland Office of the State Fire Marshal responded and is investigating the cause. The American Red Cross was requested for two adults and one child displaced by the fire.
All three occupants refused care with no injuries being reported.
