Sharon L. Nielsen, age 64, of Upper Marlboro, MD passed away on Saturday, November 14, 2020 at the Springtime Home II assisted living home where she received excellent care.
She was born on March 26, 1956 in District Heights, MD to the late John Henry Keister and Mildred Betty Lamberson.
Sharon grew up in District Heights, where she graduated from Suitland High School in 1974. She started working for the Federal Government right after High School, retiring in 2011 with 37 years of dedicated service. She met many special people, making great friends and memories through the years of her career. Sharon married Donald Eugene Nielsen in February 1976 and they were happily married for 44 years.
Sharon loved photography, camping, scrapbooking as well as spending time with family and friends. She was a creative, thoughtful and dutiful daughter, wife, mother and grandmother. Sharon volunteered her time and photography skills to the local wildlife sanctuary, friends, family and neighbors whenever she could. For a few years she even photographed weddings with her sister-in-law, Linda Mathis semi-professionally; capturing special moments and memories for even more people and their families.
She has family all over and loved to travel and visit whenever possible. Always with a camera in hand, she has numerous photo albums and scrapbooks to document and highlight each adventure and trip ever taken.
Sharon made everyone she would meet; whether in person or on the phone, laugh and could strike up a conversation with anyone with her warm smile and compassionate disposition. She was easily like a second Mom to her friend’s children, as well as her children’s friends and their kids, fondly remembered by all.
Sharon is survived by her husband, Donald Nielsen, children: Rhonda Edelen (Michael) of Faulkner, MD, and James Nielsen (Jeree) of Lothian, MD; granddaughters: Samara Nielsen and Abby Edelen. Also, by her siblings, in-laws, numerous nieces and nephews, countless cousins and other family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, aunts and uncles, cousins and grandson, Oliver “Little Tree” Edelen.
The Family would like to invite friends and family to pay their respects for Sharon at Lee Funeral Home, 6633 Old Alexandria Ferry Road, Clinton, MD 20735; on Monday, November 23, 2020 from 2-4 and/or 6-8, and Tuesday, November 24, 2020 11am –12, funeral at Noon.
