Sanorm “Toy” DeBok, 80

March 25, 2021

Sanorm “Toy” DeBok, 80, died unexpectedly March 22, 2021, at her residence in White Plains, Maryland with her husband by her side. She was born August 6, 1940, in Nakhon Nayok, Thailand, the daughter of Plian Boongim.

In April 1969, she married Phillip C. DeBok, and her husband’s military career took them to postings in San Antonio, Texas; back to Thailand; New Orleans, Louisiana; Honolulu, Hawaii; Fort Hood and San Antonio, Texas; and Fort Meade, Maryland. After military retirement, they moved to York Haven, Pennsylvania. After her husband’s civil service retirement, they split their time residing in White Plains, Maryland and Nakhon Nayok, Thailand. Phil and Toy would have celebrated 52 years of marriage this April.

Surviving in addition to her husband, Phil, are her son, John Phillip DeBok and his wife, Amy; daughter, Sandra Jean Miracle and her husband, Charlie; five grandchildren, Haley Nicole (19), Jackson Phillip (16), Maxwell Jacob (18), Leo James (15), and William Ryan (13); two sisters; one brother; and many nieces and nephews.

Toy’s life centered around family, from her early life until her death. She was widely adored and admired for her generous spirit and constant support–as well as her incredible cooking and loving nature. A private service of remembrance will be held Saturday, March 27, 2021, at Brinsfield Funeral Home in Charlotte Hall, Maryland. A service in her honor will be held at a later date at her hometown Buddhist temple in Thailand. Those who wish to remember Toy in a special way may make gifts in her memory to the local Thai Temple, Wat Tummaprateip, in Accokeek, Maryland. However, the greatest way to honor her legacy would be to commit an act of kindness and selflessness today.
