Frances Annette Elford, 85, of Mechanicsville, MD, peacefully passed away on May 31, 2022.
Frances was born on August 12, 1936, to Frank and Nellie Downs in the bustling city of Suitland, MD.
After graduating from Suitland High School, Frances worked as an Analyst at a Federal Government agency.
In 1961, she met Clarence Elford at Virginia Beach. Frances and Clarence went on to have four children; Lorri Stout (Gary) of Gaithersburg, Sheryl Sweeney (Joe) of Port Republic, Christopher Elford (Alice) of Baltimore, and Shawn Elford (Christiana) of Mechanicsville.
Frances retired in 2003 after more than 40 years of working for the U.S. Government. While retired, Frances enjoyed cooking and reading. Frances also loved hosting family celebrations and spending time with her grandchildren.
Frances was predeceased by her parents Frank and Nellie Downs, her brother Joseph Downs and her sister Mary Smeal. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, four children, eight grandchildren, Kyle, Jordan, Blair, Alex, Michael, Ben, Ann Marie, and Susan, two great-grandchildren, Hudson and Josie, and her sisters, Anna Taylor of La Plata, MD, and Catherine Davis of Farnham, VA.
A viewing will be held at Brinsfield Funeral Home in Charlotte Hall, MD on Monday, June 6 from 5-7 pm. A private burial is planned at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church.
