UPDATE: Police Arrest 17-Year-Old After 911 Callers Report Over 20 Shots Fired at Myrtle Point Park in California

UPDATE 4/2/2026: At approximately 6:53 p.m. on April 1, deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to Myrtle Point Park for reports of shots fired. When deputies arrived, they located and detained several individuals in the area.

While securing the scene and interviewing individuals, deputies made contact with a juvenile who was found to be in possession of a Glock 23 .40-caliber handgun. The juvenile was taken into custody without incident

The juvenile was charged with carrying a handgun upon their person, carrying a loaded handgun on their person, possession of a firearm by a minor, and reckless endangerment.

Juveniles are not publicly identified due to legal protections. The investigation is ongoing.

UPDATE: Police have multiple subjects in handcuffs – at least one firearm has been recovered at the scene.

Detectives from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office are on the scene with the assistance from Natural Resources Police, Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, and Maryland State Police.

NO known injuries have been reported.

UPDATE @ 8:15 P.M.: SMCSO Stated the following – At approximately 6:53 p.m., multiple 911 calls were received reporting gunfire.

This remains an active and ongoing incident, and residents are asked to avoid the area.

At this time, no injuries have been reported. Additional details will be provided as available.

UPDATE @ 8:00 P.M.: All Fire and EMS have been placed in service with zero updates or patient information provided to any First Responders at the staging area.

The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office and Maryland State Police remain at the intersection of Mill Cove Road and Myrtle Point Road to close the roadway down while St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office deals with the active scene at the park/beach.

Deputies currently have at least 5 subjects detained and in handcuffs at the scene – Maryland State Police Aviation responded to assist.

No known patients have been treated or reported.

We will provide updates whenever the Sheriff’s Office released any.


4/1/2026: On Wednesday, April 1, 2026 at approximately 7:00 p.m., police, firefighters and emergency medical services responded to the Myrtle Point Park in California for the reported shooting.

911 communications received multiple 911 calls reported over 20 shots fired with people screaming.

While Fire and EMS responded to the scene, they were advised one unknown aged unknown gender was possibly shot.

4/1/2026 @ 7:50 p.m.: ALL firefighters and emergency medical services personnel were placed in service – with ZERO updates being provided to First Responders about patients or scene information.
