Man Transported to Trauma Center After Commercial Vehicle Overturns in La Plata

On Friday, April 3, 2026, at approximately 6:05 p.m., police, firefighters and emergency medical services responded to the area of the sharp turn on Turkey Hill Road and Skylark Drive in La Plata, for the serious motor vehicle collision involving an overturned commercial vehicle with entrapment.

Crews arrived on the scene to confirm a large truck pulling a trailer was on its side with the 61-year-old male operator trapped inside the cab of the truck.

Firefighters advised to medical personnel the patient was conscious alert and breathing with scrapes to the head and face.

While firefighters extricated the victim, HAZMAT crews were dispatched to the scene due to an active diesel and hydraulic leak.

The patient was freed from the vehicle within 15 minutes of dispatch.

EMS transported the operator to the University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.
