Maurice Delaney Davis, 59, of no fixed address, is facing multiple theft-related charges after an alleged series of incidents in Charlotte Hall on March 18, 2026.
Davis is charged with theft of $100 to under $1,500, theft of less than $100, and rogue and vagabond. The charges stem from an investigation conducted by the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office.
According to charging documents, deputies responded on March 18, 2026, to the Ace Hardware parking lot in Charlotte Hall for a reported vehicle break-in and theft. An adult male victim told deputies that Davis had entered his vehicle and taken a backpack containing personal belongings while it was parked at Fred’s Liquor on Three Notch Road. The value of the items was estimated at approximately $130.
Deputies later located Davis a short time afterward at Royal Farm on Three Notch Road. According to court records, “the defendant was detained… and was read his Miranda rights which he waived.”
Investigators state that Davis admitted to the theft. Court documents say “the defendant admitted to entering the victim’s vehicle and stealing the backpack and its contents.”
Authorities also reported that Davis was found with additional stolen items. According to the statement of probable cause, “the defendant was also found to have 14 packs of salmon and crackers in his possession which he admitted from stealing from Food Lion” in Charlotte Hall.
In addition, deputies reported that Davis was in possession of a bicycle he allegedly admitted to taking from an unknown location. Investigators say he later directed deputies to where he had discarded the victim’s backpack, which was recovered in a parking lot on Three Notch Road.
Court documents further state that Davis “was in the motor vehicle of [the adult male victim]… with the intent to commit theft of property within the vehicle.”
Davis was arrested and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center, where he was charged accordingly.
Following his arrest, Davis was initially held without bond. On April 2, 2026, a judge ordered his release on his own recognizance. A competency hearing was previously scheduled and later postponed, with additional hearings set for April 2026.
