Weston Clay Danielson, 54, of La Plata, is charged in Charles County with intoxicated endangerment, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving while impaired by alcohol, reckless driving, negligent driving, driving without the required license and authorization, and driving on a revoked license after an alleged April 3, 2026 crash in the parking lot of Absher Liquors on Crain Highway in La Plata, according to court records.

According to charging documents, La Plata Police Sgt. J. Piersa was dispatched at about 6:36 p.m. on April 3, 2026 to the parking lot at Absher Liquors. Police wrote that an adult male victim reported seeing a silver GMC Envoy drive through the northern side of the lot and then try to park beside his unoccupied vehicle, a white Lexus SUV. Court records say the GMC struck the passenger-side rear bumper of the Lexus, causing visible scrapes, scratches and scuffs. Police also reported finding damage and white paint transfer on the GMC’s front bumper.

The adult male victim told police he smelled a strong odor of alcohol coming from Danielson after the collision and asked him for insurance information, according to the statement of probable cause. Court records say Danielson denied hitting the vehicle. A second worker at the business, identified in the documents as a witness, also told police he saw the GMC strike the parked SUV and saw Danielson driving it, the records state.

Police wrote that when officers spoke with Danielson, they noticed “a very strong odor of an alcoholic beverage” on his breath and observed that his eyes were bloodshot and watery. According to the court documents, Danielson told officers his wife had been driving the GMC and “walked away but was not sure where she went.” Police said Danielson refused to perform standardized field sobriety tests.

The charging papers state that officers, based on the investigation and their training, arrested Danielson on DUI and license-related offenses. Police wrote that Danielson later waived his rights and agreed to speak with officers. According to the documents, he admitted he had been drinking and said he drank “1 strong Bloody Mary about an hour prior at home.” Police also wrote that Danielson admitted his wife was not at the shopping center, despite what he had said earlier. Officers reported finding an empty shot-sized liquor bottle on the front passenger floorboard of the GMC and said Danielson had the vehicle keys in his pocket.

Court records also say Danielson refused to provide a breath sample after being advised of his rights. Police reviewed Motor Vehicle Administration records and reported that he was unlicensed, had an ID card only, and had multiple prior revocations listed in his driving history.

In the statement of charges, police alleged Danielson “did endanger the safety” of Absher Liquors and an adult male victim while intoxicated. The documents say there were many people, vehicles and businesses in the area at the time.

Danielson was released on his own recognizance with no monetary bail set, according to court records.
