UPDATE 4/17/2026: On Thursday, April 16, 2026, at 5:23 p.m., firefighters from Hollywood and surrounding departments were dispatched to 40506 Medleys Lane in Mechanicsville, for the reported house on fire.
Crews arrived on the scene to find fire through the roof of the single story single family residence, and confirmed the single occupant was out.
The estimated loss of structure and contents is valued at $100,000.00
The fire was discovered by a neighbor and determined to have originated in the attic, the cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported and the displaced are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
On Thursday, April 16, 2026, at approximately 5:23 p.m., firefighters from St. Mary’s and Charles County were dispatched to the 40000 block of Medleys Lane in Mechanicsville, for the reported house on fire.
Due to the area hydrants being out of service, a working fire dispatch and additional tankers were requested to the scene. Over 77 personnel from Calvert, St. Mary’s and Charles County responded to assist.
The first arriving Engines, Hollywood Engine 71 and Mechanicsville Engine 22 laid out over 1900 feet of hose, with a water dump tank being setup on Loveville Road.
Crews arrived on the scene to confirm a single story residence with fire through the roof.
All occupants were accounted for, with one being evaluated by EMS. No known injuries were reported.
Units operated on the scene for approximately 3 hours before returning to service.
SMECO, the American Red Cross, and Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal was requested.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
