On Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at approximately 5:20 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to the 16000 block of Teagues Point Road in Hughesville, for the reported structure fire.
The 911 caller reported they arrived home to find smoke and fire in the kitchen, and stated that one person inside the residence had suffered burns to their arms.
Crews quickly arrived on the scene to find smoke showing from the one-story single-family home.
Firefighters deployed attack lines and entered the residence to find the occupant still inside and suffering burns, with the fire being extinguished. The victim was removed from the structure and transferred to EMS for medical treatment.
EMS transported the male victim to the MedStar Health Burn Center at the MedStar Washington Hospital Center.
The fire was found to be extinguished, however, heavy smoke conditions remained inside the residence. Responding units ventilated the building and performed overhaul and checked for further extensions in the affected area to ensure the fire had not spread.
No other injuries were reported.
The American Red Cross was requested to assist the three displaced adults.
