Edwin Augusto Maldonado, 45, of Lusby
Edwin Augusto Maldonado, 45, of Lusby, is facing multiple felony charges including sexual abuse of a minor, sexual solicitation of a minor, and altering physical evidence, according to court documents.
Authorities allege that Maldonado engaged in ongoing inappropriate and illegal conduct involving a minor within a household setting. Court records indicate the allegations span a period between 2024 and March 2026.
According to the Calvert County Public Schools athletics website, Maldonado is listed as the head coach of the Patuxent High School boys varsity soccer team. In his initial intake paperwork Maldonado stated he was unemployed. Court records do not indicate the allegations are connected to his role with the school or any school-related activities.
The investigation began after a report was made to Child Protective Services, prompting detectives with the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office to conduct interviews and gather evidence. According to court documents, investigators reviewed electronic communications described as sexual in nature and inappropriate.
Authorities also allege that Maldonado attempted to interfere with the investigation by instructing that certain communications be deleted.
Following his arrest, Maldonado was ordered held without bond. A bail review hearing held March 16, 2026, upheld that decision, and the court imposed conditions including no contact with victims, witnesses, or co-defendants.
The case was initially filed in the District Court for Calvert County before being transferred to Circuit Court, where it has been formally indicted. Court records show Maldonado is facing multiple counts of sexual abuse of a minor across different time periods, along with additional charges of sexual solicitation of a minor and altering physical evidence.
Defense attorneys have filed several motions in the case, including requests to suppress evidence and dismiss charges. The filings argue that certain evidence may have been obtained unlawfully and should not be used in court. Additional motions request dismissal based on alleged issues with how the case was initiated and how evidence was collected.
Upcoming court proceedings include a pre-trial conference scheduled for June 1, 2026, and a jury trial set to begin in October 2026 in Calvert County Circuit Court.
The case remains ongoing.
