St. Mary’s County Republican Central Condemns Ineffectual Supermajority Democrat Policies in 2026 General Assembly Session

April 27, 2026

The St. Mary’s County Republican Central Committee (RCC) strongly condemns the ineffectual policies of the supermajority Democrats during the 2026 Legislative Session. From the very beginning of session, the Democrats prioritized national and international politics over real and actionable state issues. They pushed to disenfranchise a significant portion of the Maryland population with an egregious gerrymandering scheme.

They recognize the affordability crisis in Maryland yet only approve of policies that hurt hard working Maryland families. Residents only need to look at their electric bills over the last year or their exorbitant car registration renewals to see the direct impact of the supermajority Democrat policies.

The sky-high electric costs and shocking vehicle registration fees are direct results of the Democrat policies. It is clear that the Democrat party is not in support of the people they claim to represent. The Democrat designed budget leaves Maryland with a massive multi-billion-dollar long-term structural deficit, and they are already planning on raising taxes on Maryland residents next year following the
election.

The Republican Central Committee also wants to recognize and thank Senator Jack Bailey and Delegates Todd Morgan and Matt Morgan for their hard work during the 2026 Legislative Session. They proposed and championed Republican legislation and policies that would have directly impacted working residents and improved affordability. The Republican

Central Committee looks forward to the election of William “BJ” Hall as Delegate for District 29B because of his focus on supporting the residents of St. Mary’s County and his proven community service track record, and the committee is confident that he will work well with the other members of the St. Mary’s County delegation to bring common sense to Annapolis.

Additionally, the Republican Central Committee is proud of the work done at the local level by the St. Mary’s County Commissioners to build a budget, despite additional mandates and cost shifts from the state, that keeps tax rates flat and prioritizes education and public safety. The St. Mary’s County Commissioners have recognized the affordability issues created by the supermajority Democrat party and worked to address rising costs on county residents by reducing the County Energy Tax to 0%.

Central Committee Chairwoman Jennifer Boyd commented “I am thankful for the commonsense Republicans that we have working for St. Mary’s County. I wish that the Democrats had actually tried to work with our Republican legislators to create real and beneficial change. The so-called energy relief passed by the General Assembly is a drop in the bucket and will have minimal monthly savings. Our Republican legislators had viable plans that would have resulted in real savings for our residents.”

The St. Mary’s County Republican Central Committee is the governing body and the official spokesman for the Republican Party in St. Mary’s County. They work with the Republican State Central Committee for Maryland, which is part of the Republican National Committee. They seek to educate and register new voters, assist Republicans running for public office, and promote the principles, objectives and platform of the Republican Party. The St. Mary’s County Republican Central Committee is made up of 9 community members elected by the Republican citizens of St. Mary’s County. They hold monthly meetings that are open to the public.
