Barry Jeremiah Parran, 58, of Prince Frederick, is facing multiple drug and traffic-related charges following an early morning incident on Arthur King Road in Prince Frederick on May 2, 2026, according to court documents.

Charging documents allege Parran is charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance (not cannabis), possession of drug paraphernalia, negligent driving, reckless driving, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving while impaired by alcohol, driving while impaired by drugs or a combination of drugs and alcohol, driving while impaired by a controlled dangerous substance, displaying expired registration plates, operating a vehicle without valid registration, and driving without a valid license.

According to a statement of probable cause, a deputy with the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office responded at approximately 1:23 a.m. to a report of “an individual slumped over in [a] vehicle in the middle of Arthur King Road.” Upon arrival, the deputy located a gray GMC Yukon stopped in the roadway and observed a man asleep in the driver’s seat.

The report states the driver did not immediately respond and, after waking, showed signs of impairment. The deputy noted the driver had “slurred speech, glassy eyes,” and there was “strong odor of an alcoholic beverage” coming from him. When asked how much he had to drink, the driver responded, “A very good amount.”

Authorities reported that when Parran exited the vehicle, he appeared unsteady and was “unable to keep his balance,” swaying back and forth. He declined medical assistance when offered.

The deputy attempted to conduct field sobriety testing, but the report states Parran repeatedly said he needed to “Piss” and did not comply with instructions. He then attempted to walk away, which the deputy interpreted as a refusal to participate in testing, and he was taken into custody.

During a search, authorities say they located a torn plastic bag containing a white powdery substance believed to be cocaine in Parran’s pocket. The substance was seized and will be tested by the Maryland State Laboratory.

Following his arrest, Parran was advised of his rights and, according to the report, stated that he “does not blow into anything,” which was treated as a refusal to submit to breath testing. He was transported to the Calvert County Detention Center.

Court records show Parran was held without bond following his initial appearance. The court determined that release on personal recognizance would not ensure his appearance, citing the nature of the charges, potential penalties, and a prior history of failing to appear in court.

A bail review hearing was scheduled for May 4, 2026, and a trial date is set for June 18, 2026, at the District Court in Prince Frederick.

Court records show this is not the first recent arrest for Parran. On January 25, 2026, he was charged in a separate case after a traffic stop near Silverwood Lane in Prince Frederick, where a Maryland State Police trooper observed a vehicle without registration plates. According to charging documents, Parran showed signs of impairment, including “slurred speech” and “glassy and bloodshot eyes,” and refused to participate in field sobriety testing. He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving while impaired, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, and multiple traffic-related violations.

In an earlier incident on September 15, 2025, Parran was arrested following a disturbance outside a business on Solomons Island Road in Prince Frederick. Authorities reported he was involved in an altercation and was “stumbling, slurring his words,” and emitting a strong odor of alcohol. He was charged with disorderly conduct and intoxicated endangerment after allegedly causing a public disturbance and endangering others while intoxicated.
