Paul David Bennett Jr., 39, and Paul David Bennett Sr., 72, both of Hollywood, Maryland, were arrested and charged with second-degree assault following an alleged assault investigation at Iron Horse Lane in Hollywood on April 27, 2026, according to court documents filed in St. Mary’s County District Court.

Both men face one count each of second-degree assault, a misdemeanor charge under Maryland Criminal Law Article 3-203. Court records show the cases were filed April 28, 2026, in the District Court for St. Mary’s County.

According to charging documents filed by the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to Iron Horse Lane at approximately 7:40 p.m. on April 27, 2026, for a reported assault involving an adult male victim. Deputies said the incident initially began as what was described in court documents as a civil dispute between a landlord and tenant regarding use of a washing machine.

Court documents state deputies initially de-escalated the situation and left the residence. According to the statement of probable cause, deputies later received another call from the victim, who reported that he had been locked out of the home and was assaulted after re-entering the residence.

The adult male victim told deputies he was “jumped” and struck numerous times by both defendants, according to court records. Deputies reported observing a red mark on the victim’s left cheek below his eye, a scratch on his chest, and what the victim described as a knot on his head accompanied by a developing headache.

Charging documents state both defendants denied assaulting the victim and allegedly told deputies they believed the victim injured himself because he was “crazy.” Deputies also reported the defendants initially left the area after learning police had been called, but later pulled over when contacted by law enforcement.

According to court filings, investigators determined both defendants were the aggressors based on the victim’s account, visible injuries, and statements gathered at the scene. Deputies noted all parties had reportedly been living together at the residence for approximately three weeks.

Paul David Bennett Jr. and Paul David Bennett Sr. were transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center and later released on their own recognizance following initial appearances before District Court Commissioner Alexis Commodore on April 28, 2026.

As conditions of release, both men were ordered not to abuse, threaten, or intimidate the adult male victim and to avoid further criminal conduct while the cases remain pending.

Court records show both defendants waived attorneys during their initial appearances. Hearings for both cases are scheduled for June 2, 2026, at 9 a.m. in Courtroom 2 of the St. Mary’s District Court.
