A late-night boat fire in Drayden caused an estimated $125,000 in damages and spread heat damage to two nearby vessels, according to the Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal.
Firefighters responded around 11:06 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7, 2026, to 46555 Dennis Point Way in St. Mary’s County for the reported boat fire. The incident involved a 61-foot motor vessel that was on land undergoing repairs when the fire broke out.
Officials say the lone occupant aboard the vessel discovered the fire in the engine compartment and safely escaped without injury.
The Second District Volunteer Fire Department served as the primary responding agency, with approximately 40 firefighters operating on the scene. Crews brought the fire under control in about 90 minutes.
Investigators estimated the damage at approximately $100,000 to the vessel and an additional $25,000 in contents. Two other nearby motor vessels also sustained heat damage as a result of the blaze.
The preliminary cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office.
