Raul Luis Malpica-Adorno, 39, of Baltimore, is facing multiple misdemeanor drug charges after a traffic stop in Lexington Park on April 22, 2026, according to charging documents filed in St. Mary’s County District Court.

Malpica-Adorno is charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance not cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia following an investigation by the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office.

According to court documents, Deputy Travis Wimberly observed a gray 2009 Mazda 3 traveling near Old Great Mills Road in Lexington Park with expired 2024 registration and without a front registration plate attached. During the traffic stop, the deputy allegedly observed “an abundance of copper brillo lying on the front passenger floorboard,” which the deputy stated is commonly used as filter material in devices used to smoke crack cocaine.

Charging documents state the deputy then made contact with Malpica-Adorno and allegedly found “a glass smoking device containing a burnt residue suspected of being crack cocaine” between the driver’s seat and outer driver’s door.

According to the statement of probable cause, a subsequent search of the vehicle allegedly uncovered “a folded paper lottery ticket containing white rock like substance suspected of being crack cocaine” hidden beneath the lid of a capped aerosol can located in the rear driver-side seat area. Court records state the recovered substances and paraphernalia were found directly beneath and behind where Malpica-Adorno had been seated.

The deputy wrote in charging documents, “The defendant was placed under arrest and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center.”

Court records show Malpica-Adorno waived his right to an attorney during his initial appearance on April 22, 2026. He was released after posting a $2,000 unsecured personal bond and was ordered to appear in court as directed and refrain from criminal activity and the use of controlled dangerous substances without a prescription.
