Join Parks & Recreation to Build New Playground at Cove Point Park

May 12, 2026

The Calvert County Department of Parks & Recreation (CCPR) is partnering with KABOOM!, Constellation Energy and   several local organizations to bring a new, community-designed playground to Cove Point Park in Lusby.

The next step in the project will take place during KABOOM! “Build Week,” from May 19-21, 2026. CCPR is seeking community members to join the “Build Day” effort May 21 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., when volunteers will construct the new playground from start to finish.

No construction experience is required. Volunteers will receive breakfast, lunch and a free T-shirt.

Volunteers can sign up at with KABOOM! at their online registration page.

“We’re excited to work with KABOOM! and our partners to create a playground that reflects the imagination and input of our community,” said Bob Branham, director of Parks & Recreation. “This project highlights what can happen when residents, organizations and local government come together for a shared purpose.”

The KABOOM! project offers an opportunity to expand recreational options for local families and is separate from the larger playground renovation also underway at the park.

This project began with a “Design Day” event on March 18, when local children and families gathered to envision the new play space. The event featured hands-on design activities where children sketched their dream playgrounds, and adults selected preferred features and colors.

Additional financial partners in the project include Dash In, Scheibel Construction, CalvertHealth, CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, Sneade’s Ace Home Center, Chick-fil-A First Colony Center and the Mark Frisco Team.
