Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Mourns Passing of Retired K9 Reaper

May 12, 2026

The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the passing of K9 Reaper, a German Shepherd who served the agency and the community from 2019 to 2025.

K9 Reaper was born on October 24, 2016, and served alongside his handler, Cpl. Curtis Callison. During his years of service, Reaper was certified in narcotics detection, criminal apprehension, tracking, and article searches.

Sheriff’s officials described Reaper as a devoted member of the agency, as well as a loyal partner, protector, and friend.

In addition to his law enforcement duties, Reaper was known as a community ambassador. He participated in demonstrations and public events at fairs, daycares, churches, and other local gatherings, where officials said he helped strengthen the connection between law enforcement and residents.

When he was not working, Reaper enjoyed spending time at home, relaxing, and playing with other four-legged friends.

The Sheriff’s Office extended condolences to Cpl. Callison and all who knew and loved Reaper, saying his dedication, courage, and loyalty will not be forgotten.

“Rest easy, Reaper. Your watch has ended, but your legacy lives on,” the agency said.
