Benedict Bridge Now OPEN After Serious Head-on Collision – One Transported by Helicopter

On Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at approximately 5:55 a.m., police, firefighters and emergency medical services from Calvert and Charles County responded to the Benedict Bridge, for a motor vehicle collision with injuries.

Crews arrived on the scene to find a two vehicle head-on style collision with one patient reporting chest pains.

Upon evaluating the adult male, EMS requested a helicopter due to possible internal bleeding.

Maryland State Police Aviation Command Trooper 7 landed nearby and transported the patient to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center.

The bridge is completely open as of 7:15 a.m.
