Iilayah Nyja Hillary, 25, of North Beach
Iilayah Nyja Hillary, 25, of North Beach, has been charged in Calvert County District Court with second-degree assault and malicious destruction of property valued under $1,000 after a reported domestic incident on May 21, 2026, according to court documents.
Deputy First Class Morrison, listed as the complainant with the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, alleged that the incident occurred in North Beach on May 21, 2026. The charges state that Hillary “did assault” an adult male victim “in the second degree” and that she “did willfully and maliciously destroy/injure/deface” a Ring doorbell camera, described as the personal property of the adult male victim, with damage valued at less than $1,000.
The probable cause statement says DFC Morrison responded at about 5:07 p.m. for a report of a domestic assault. The document says Hillary was found outside the home and was described as upset and having difficulty speaking because of a prior medical history affecting her speech. According to the officer’s account, Hillary reported that she had been assaulted by her father and that he was removing registration plates from her car when the incident happened. The officer noted fresh scrapes on the top of Hillary’s left foot, where the skin was broken, and a scrape on her right forearm, where the skin was not broken.
Court documents say the adult male victim told the deputy that tensions began the previous day after he asked Hillary if she had left the stove on. The adult male victim and an adult female witness told the deputy that Hillary became angry about the question and began slamming doors and cursing at him. The adult male victim said he later went outside to remove registration plates from a BMW Hillary drives because the plates were registered to him.
According to the probable cause statement, the adult male victim said Hillary came outside and asked what he was doing. The document says the adult male victim reported that Hillary “stuck her leg out and pushed up against him to move him,” and that he pushed her away so he could continue removing the plates, after which she fell. The adult male victim then alleged Hillary got up and began swinging at him with a closed fist, striking him at least twice, including once in the left temple and once in the nose. The officer wrote that he observed a bruise on the adult male victim’s temple and that the adult male victim had a bloody nose.
The probable cause statement also says the adult male victim reported that Hillary broke the doorbell camera attached to the front exterior entryway of the home. The officer wrote that the camera was observed hanging by wires and that photographs were taken of injuries to both parties and the broken camera. The officer also wrote that neighbors did not witness the full incident and that follow-up would be conducted at a nearby townhouse in North Beach to determine whether a working doorbell camera captured footage.
Based on the statements from those involved and the injuries observed on the adult male victim, DFC Morrison wrote that he determined Hillary was the primary aggressor and placed her under arrest for second-degree assault and malicious destruction of property under $1,000. The document says Hillary was searched, no weapons or contraband were found, and she was taken to the Calvert County Detention Center on Stafford Road in Prince Frederick.
A separate initial appearance report shows Hillary appeared before a District Court commissioner on May 21, 2026. The commissioner released her on personal recognizance with a $0 bail amount. The report states that Hillary waived an attorney for the initial appearance only and was advised of her right to counsel.
As conditions of release, the court ordered Hillary not to engage in criminal conduct and to appear in court when notified. The court also ordered her not to intimidate the adult male victim/witness and to complete an evaluation with Calvert Behavioral Health and follow all recommendations. A notification report in the initial appearance filing repeats that Hillary was released on personal recognizance and ordered not to engage in criminal activity, to appear in court, not to intimidate the adult male victim, and to complete the behavioral health evaluation.
