Kimberly Shannon Johnson, 49, of Mechanicsville, is facing six misdemeanor drug-related charges in St. Mary’s County District Court, including two counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance other than cannabis and four counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, according to court documents.

The charges stem from an incident on May 21, 2026, involving the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office. Court documents list Deputy Jason Smith as the complainant and arresting officer. The statement of charges alleges Johnson possessed fentanyl and cocaine, along with paraphernalia described as a glass pipe, a plastic straw, a razor blade, and a paper fold.

According to the statement of probable cause, a deputy was dispatched around 11:30 a.m. to the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center on Baldridge Street in Leonardtown for a reported controlled dangerous substance violation. The documents state that a correctional officer was assigned to the transport section and was at the District Courthouse on Leonard Hall Drive in Leonardtown when Johnson was remanded to sheriff’s custody by a judge.

Court documents allege that before Johnson entered the courthouse holding area, her property was searched in preparation for transport to the detention center. During the search of Johnson’s purse, the correctional officer allegedly found a short glass pipe with burnt residue. The documents state the correctional officer identified the item as drug paraphernalia and notified supervisors, who contacted the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office.

The probable cause statement says the deputy later reviewed the items collected from Johnson. Inside a cigarette pack, the deputy reported finding a glass tube with burnt residue. The documents also describe an “Altoids” tin that allegedly contained a razor blade, a red plastic straw with off-white powdery residue, and a paper wrapper containing tan-and-white powder.

According to court documents, the deputy wrote that, based on training and experience, the glass pipe was believed to be used to heat and inhale crack cocaine, and the tan-and-white powder was suspected heroin. The deputy also wrote that the razor blade was believed to be used to prepare the substance, the straw to ingest it, and the paper wrapper to store it.

The probable cause statement includes several direct statements attributed to Johnson. After being read her rights, Johnson allegedly agreed to speak with the deputy, verified her identity, and described the glass tube as a “pipe.” When asked about the fold, she allegedly said it was “dope.” When asked whether it was heroin or contained fentanyl, she allegedly said it was “fentanyl.” After being told she was being charged, Johnson allegedly told the deputy to “f##k off.”

Court records list the two substance possession charges as involving fentanyl and cocaine. The four paraphernalia charges involve a glass pipe allegedly used to inhale cocaine, a plastic straw allegedly used to inhale fentanyl, a razor blade allegedly used to prepare fentanyl, and a paper fold allegedly used to store fentanyl.

At Johnson’s initial appearance on May 21, 2026, court records state she waived an attorney for that hearing only. The court ordered her release on a $1,000 unsecured personal bond, which was posted the same day. Conditions of release included appearing in court, not engaging in criminal conduct, and abstaining from alcohol or the abusive use or possession of controlled substances without a prescription.
