Heat Advisory Issued for Southern Maryland Through 8 P.M. Thursday

June 11, 2026

The National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington has continued a Heat Advisory for portions of Maryland, Washington, D.C., and northern Virginia until 8 p.m. Thursday, June 11, 2026.

Forecasters say heat index values could reach up to 105 degrees in areas near and east of the Interstate 95 corridor, including Charles, St. Mary’s and Calvert counties, along with Prince George’s, Anne Arundel, southern Baltimore, Cecil and southeast Harford counties.

Hot temperatures combined with high humidity may cause heat-related illnesses, especially for those spending time outdoors, older adults, young children, people with health conditions, outdoor workers and anyone without access to air conditioning.

Residents are urged to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned areas when possible, avoid direct sunlight, and check on relatives, neighbors and pets.

Anyone who must be outside should wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and try to limit strenuous activity to the early morning or evening hours. Outdoor workers should take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas.

Heat exhaustion symptoms can include heavy sweating, weakness, dizziness, nausea, headache and fainting. Heat stroke is a medical emergency and may include confusion, loss of consciousness, hot skin, or a body temperature above 103 degrees.

Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool, shaded location. In cases of suspected heat stroke, call 911 immediately.
