Mark Anthony Morgan, 38, of Mechanicsville
Mark Anthony Morgan, 38, of Mechanicsville, has been charged with second-degree burglary, fourth-degree burglary related to burglary tools, possession of a controlled dangerous substance other than cannabis, and malicious destruction of property valued under $1,000 after an alleged garage break-in in Waldorf on June 5, 2026.
According to allegations filed in the case, officers with the Charles County Sheriff’s Office responded at about 4:18 p.m. to Barbaras Court in Waldorf for a report of a breaking and entering in progress. A male property owner was outside a detached garage and reported seeing a man in black shorts with a leg tattoo rummaging inside the garage. Authorities said the property owner maintained sight of the garage door and did not see the man leave.
When officers arrived, they cleared the garage and did not find anyone inside. The garage had been searched through, and a side door had been kicked open, according to the allegations. A K-9 track led officers toward the area of Grace Christian Academy of Maryland and Good Samaritan Presbyterian Church.
An officer reported seeing a white Mercedes with Virginia registration in the church parking lot. Outside the vehicle, officers found a white male wearing black shorts, a gray shirt and gray shoes. Authorities identified him as Morgan and said his hand was covered in blood and he had dirt on the front and back of his clothing.
Morgan was detained, and officers said pills fell from his shorts pocket during a frisk. Authorities also reported recovering a knife and a glass smoking device from him. A search of the vehicle allegedly turned up an additional glass smoking device, a metal pry bar and three surveillance cameras, which were taken to the District III station.
Investigators also said Morgan’s shoe print had “a very unique circular design” that was consistent with markings found on the kicked-in door. Surveillance footage recovered from outside the garage allegedly showed a man matching Morgan’s description and clothing kicking the side door four times before entering the garage. Authorities said the male property owner then opened the garage door, which scared the man and caused him to run from the scene through the same side door.
The filings also allege that an air compressor line inside the residence had been cut with a sharp object and that the hose was used to siphon fuel. The malicious destruction charge accuses Morgan of damaging the side garage door so it could no longer properly function or secure the property.
Morgan appeared before a judicial officer on June 6, 2026. He waived an attorney for his initial appearance only, requested a preliminary hearing, and was ordered held without bond. The stated reason was a “reasonable likelihood” that he posed a danger to the safety of the alleged victim, another person, or the community.
A bail review was held June 8, 2026, before Judge Robert C. Wilcox, and Morgan remained held without bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 1, 2026, in Charles District Court.
