VIDEO: State Police Make One Arrest – Police Stepping Up Patrols in Response to Shootings in St. Mary’s County

Following a series of incidents, including the shooting of two individuals, the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office has deployed extra patrols throughout the Lexington Park and Great Mills areas.

On Saturday, June 13, at approximately 6:32 p.m., deputies responded to the 46000 block of Hilton Drive in Lexington Park, where they located two males suffering from gunshot wounds.

Both victims were flown to an area trauma center. One victim has since been released, while the second remains hospitalized in stable condition.

Later that evening, at approximately 9:52 p.m., deputies responded to the area of Great Mills Court and Lexwood Drive in Lexington Park for a reported shooting. No injuries were reported in that incident.

Troopers from the Maryland State Police Leonardtown Barrack observed two subjects causing an active disturbance and appearing to instigate a physical disturbances and intervened before it took place by detaining both subjects.

One suspect began actively attempting to pull away from police and resist arrest. The second suspect was released on the scene a short time later.

At this time, investigators do not believe these shootings were random acts. Rather, they are believed to be targeted acts of violence.

The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office stated extra patrols will remain in place as investigators continue working to determine the circumstances surrounding both shootings.
