Steve L Thomas, 56, of Lexington Park, has been charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance other than cannabis and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia after a June 2, 2026 traffic stop near Great Mills Road and FDR Boulevard in Lexington Park.
According to allegations filed in District Court for St. Mary’s County, a deputy with the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office reported seeing a silver Mitsubishi Galant traveling on Great Mills Road near the intersection with FDR Boulevard. The deputy said the vehicle was stopped for allegedly failing to display registration tabs and for allegedly not being equipped with an outside mirror.
The driver was identified through a Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration photograph. Thomas was identified as the front-seat passenger after he provided his name and date of birth, according to the officer’s account. A second deputy arrived with K9 Karma while information for the driver and Thomas was being checked.
After the driver and Thomas were removed from the vehicle, K9 Karma conducted a free-air scan and “positively alerted during the scan of the vehicle,” the deputy wrote. A search of the vehicle allegedly found a white rock suspected to be crack cocaine on the front passenger floorboard, as well as a silver spoon with white powder residue on the rear passenger-side floorboard behind the front passenger seat.
Deputies also searched Thomas and reported finding a “glass smoking device with burnt end and white residue inside” in his left shoe. The deputy wrote that, based on training and experience, the items were believed to be connected to crack cocaine use. Thomas was placed under arrest and taken to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center.
The charges listed against Thomas are possession of a controlled dangerous substance other than cannabis, possession of paraphernalia involving a silver spoon with white residue, and possession of paraphernalia involving a glass smoking device. The charge summary identifies all three as misdemeanor charges, with the controlled substance allegation tied to suspected crack cocaine.
Thomas had an initial appearance on June 2, 2026. He was released on a $1,500 unsecured personal bond, with conditions that he not engage in criminal conduct and appear in court when directed. A court date is scheduled for July 20, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. in St. Mary’s District Court.
