The St. Joseph Catholic Church released the following information this week.
“Seeking your help to locate an individual who caused damage in our cemetery. We believe that on Thursday, June 11, 2026 between 8:36pm and 8:50pm, the driver of the pictured car, hit a headstone and flagpole in our cemetery.
The bumper and a headlight are most definitely damaged.
If you know who this individual is, please contact the parish office at 301-539-3903. The Sheriff’s office has been notified and is investigating.
Please come forward. It would be much better if this can be resolved before formal charges are initiated.”

Sadly, this is not the first incident involving damage to gravestones or headstones at the church cemetery, whether accidental or the result of negligence. On Tuesday, June 13, 2023, a vehicle damaged a large headstone with a cross on top had been toppled over and broken. The foundation was also dislodged. Another flat, above-ground mausoleum-style marker was scraped on top and knocked out of place.
