No Injuries Reported, Firefighters Save Barn After Large Field Fires in Mechanicsville

On Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at approximately 3:25 p.m., firefighters from Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s County were dispatched to the 39000 block of Cooney Neck Road off Route 6 in Mechanicsville, for the large brush fire threatening a barn.

911 callers reported a large field on fire spreading and threatening a barn.

Crews arrived on the scene to find an approximate 3 to 7 acre field fire and quickly contained the fire. A brush fire task force was dispatched, which brought 40 firefighters from St. Mary’s, Calvert, and Charles County to the scene.

Firefighters used 84 Lumber as the closest water supply point to shuttle water to and from the scene.

The fire was extinguished within 20 minutes, with crews operating on the scene for over an hour to hit hot spots and wet down all areas involved.

Maryland Forestry remained on scene for an extended period of time to observe and clear the burned areas.
