Mary Frances Dicus, 94, of Hollywood, MD, died surrounded by her family on Saturday, June 27, 2026. Born January 6,1932 in St. Mary’s County, she was the daughter of the late J. Spencer and Estelle Martin.
Mrs. Dicus married Raymond A. Dicus on August 7, 1954 and the couple started their life together in Baltimore, Maryland. They moved back to Mrs. Dicus’ home county of St. Mary’s in 1968. They were active members of St. John’s Catholic Church in Hollywood. Her seven children all attended school there, where she was a volunteer for many years. She was also a volunteer at St. Mary’s Caring Soup Kitchen and Helping Hands. Mrs. Dicus was an amazing cook and a generous hostess, and her home was a welcoming gathering place for family and friends. Over the years, delicious foods and fun times were enjoyed by all who spent time there. She was a homemaker until her youngest child started high school, when she started working part time for Dr. Joel Hertz, doctor of podiatric medicine, a job which she enjoyed immensely and for which she was valued for her warm approach to everyone she came into contact with.
Her faith and her family were the center of her life. She was proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and she was often heard saying her family was her greatest treasure. She loved life up until the end and remained thankful for her many blessings. She was an example of warmth, grace and strength for all who knew her.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by brothers Charles Martin, Thomas Martin, William Martin and Joseph Martin; sisters Lois Krzeski and Cecilia Kalendek; and son-in-law Frank Brown. Leaving a legacy of love, Mrs. Dicus is survived by her seven loving children – Patricia Belanger of Hollywood, MD, Michael Dicus of Hollywood, MD, Barbara Brown (Frank) of Great Mills, MD, Joanne Dicus (Tony Tavera) of Woodbine, MD, Steven Dicus of Crossville, TN, Jimmy Dicus (Teri) of Hollywood, MD, and Joseph Dicus (Lori) of Edmond, OK, 16 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren (with 1 on the way).
