James Robert Anderson Jr., 44, of Hollywood, faces several St. Mary’s County District Court cases involving misdemeanor drug possession, drug paraphernalia and theft charges, including three open cases from 2026 and one closed case from late 2025.

The most recent case stems from a June 25, 2026, arrest in Lexington Park. Anderson is charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance that was not cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia. According to the charging papers, a deputy with the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office was on routine patrol near Great Mills Road in Lexington Park when he saw Anderson standing in a parking lot across the street. The deputy reported that he knew Anderson had an active failure-to-appear warrant through the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office.

The deputy wrote that Anderson looked toward the marked patrol vehicle, adjusted his waistband and ran behind the building. The deputy chased him on foot, and Anderson was stopped in woods behind the property and arrested. During a search, the deputy reported finding an improvised glass smoking device containing suspected cocaine residue.

At an initial appearance later that night, Anderson was released on a $2,000 unsecured personal bond in that June case. His listed release conditions included appearing in court, not engaging in criminal activity, and abstaining from alcohol or abusive use or possession of narcotics or other controlled substances without a prescription. A trial that had been scheduled for August 17, 2026, was reset, with another trial date listed for August 25, 2026.

Anderson also has an open theft case filed March 31, 2026. In that case, he is charged with theft of property valued at $100 to under $1,500. The allegation involves sports trading cards at a Target on First Colony Way in California on March 21, 2026. A deputy wrote that a loss prevention manager reported seeing a person concealing sports trading cards in the store. The deputy said Anderson later walked out with a cart that appeared to contain only his jacket, but when asked where the trading cards were, Anderson lifted the jacket and revealed $210.86 worth of sports trading cards. The deputy wrote that Anderson admitted taking the cards without paying, and the cards were returned to the store.

The deputy also reported reviewing video that showed Anderson walking through the store, placing the trading cards in a shopping cart, covering them with his jacket, passing all points of sale, sitting briefly near the exit and restrooms, making a phone call, and then leaving the store with the cards. Court scheduling information provided for the case shows Anderson failed to appear for a May 15, 2026, preliminary inquiry, a bench warrant was issued that day, and the warrant was served May 29, 2026. He was later released on a $1,000 unsecured personal bond.

A separate open drug-related case was filed Jan. 30, 2026. Anderson is charged in that case with possession of a controlled dangerous substance that was not cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia. The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office reported responding to North Essex Drive in Lexington Park for a suspicious vehicle parked in front of a residence. A deputy wrote that a 2012 Mitsubishi Galant was occupied by two people and that, when the driver rolled down the window, smoke came out of the vehicle. The deputy reported seeing Anderson in the passenger seat holding a glass smoking device with burnt ends in his left hand.

After Anderson was detained, the deputy wrote that a glass smoking device was recovered from his hand and that a second glass smoking device was found in the inside pocket of the jacket he was wearing. Both devices were described as containing suspected controlled-substance residue. Anderson was initially released on personal recognizance in that case, but court scheduling information provided shows he later failed to appear for court dates on April 28, 2026, and June 4, 2026. Bench warrants were issued after both missed appearances and later served. The case is currently listed with a trial date of July 28, 2026, and bond entries show he was held without bond after later proceedings.

The closed case began with a Dec. 1, 2025, encounter in Lexington Park. Anderson was charged in that case with possession of a controlled dangerous substance that was not cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia after a deputy reported seeing him walking near Great Mills Road and North Essex Drive. The deputy wrote that a wanted check showed Anderson had an active bench warrant for theft less than $100. When the deputy made contact with Anderson on Eric Road, Anderson allegedly said he had a “pipe” in his possession.

A search after the arrest found a smoking device in the front pocket of Anderson’s sweatshirt, according to the deputy, who described it as commonly used to consume crack cocaine and said it had suspected crack cocaine residue. After being advised of his rights, Anderson agreed to speak with the deputy. When asked about the smoking device, Anderson allegedly said he found it on the ground and picked it up because “he didn’t want any kids to get to it.”

That December case was later closed. Court information provided shows Anderson pleaded guilty on Jan. 20, 2026, to the paraphernalia charge before Judge James Tanavage. A $500 unsecured personal bond had been posted in that case and was later released.

Across the pending 2026 matters, Anderson’s listed charges include two counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance that was not cannabis, two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, and one count of theft of property valued at $100 to under $1,500. The open cases remain pending in St. Mary’s County District Court.
