Sean Patrick Heckman, 23, of Indian Head
Sean Patrick Heckman, 23, of Indian Head, is facing a felony charge of possessing or receiving a weapon while confined or detained, a misdemeanor charge of possessing contraband in a place of confinement, two misdemeanor counts of possessing a controlled dangerous substance other than cannabis, and one misdemeanor count of possessing drug paraphernalia, according to documents filed in Charles County.
The newest allegations stem from a June 26, 2026, incident at the Charles County Detention Center on Crain Highway in La Plata. A Charles County Sheriff’s Office officer wrote that he responded to the detention center for a report of a recovered weapon inside the facility. Police said that detention center staff had received an anonymous tip that Heckman, who was incarcerated at the time, had a knife-like object commonly referred to as a shank.
The object was described as being made from parts of a pair of glasses, a paper towel and a hair tie wrapped around the handle area, with a sharpened end. Correctional officers removed Heckman from his cell and placed him in an interview room. The deputy wrote that Heckman told a detention center sergeant where the shank was located inside his cell.
Correctional officers then searched the room and reported finding a shank matching the description near the bed area, between the back of the bed and the wall. The item was placed in a gun locker inside the intake area until officers arrived.
After being advised of his rights, Heckman agreed to speak with the officer. Heckman said that “he was holding the shank for his friend” and said he “did not wish to provide” the friend’s information. The officer wrote that the incident was captured either on jail surveillance video or body-worn camera footage.
Heckman is scheduled for a preliminary inquiry on Aug. 17, 2026, in Charles District Court.
Heckman also has a separate open case tied to an April 18, 2025, arrest in Waldorf. In that matter, he is charged with two counts of possessing a controlled dangerous substance other than cannabis and one count of possessing drug paraphernalia. Those allegations began when a Charles County Sheriff’s Office officer responded to a 7-Eleven on Smallwood Drive in Waldorf for a report of suspicious activity.
The officer wrote that Heckman was found behind the building with a juvenile female. While speaking with him, the officer noticed a bulge in Heckman’s sock. According to police Heckman reached into the sock and pulled out a torn, twisted corner piece of a plastic shopping bag. The officer said the bag appeared to contain a clear capsule with a white powdery substance inside.
After Heckman was arrested, another officer searched him and found his wallet concealed in his underwear. Inside the wallet, officers reported finding a folded dollar bill containing a white powdery substance. Field testing at the Charles County Sheriff’s Office District III Station indicated the substance in the dollar bill tested positive for cocaine, while the substance in the capsule tested positive for alprazolam.
In the 2025 case, Heckman was initially released on recognizance. The case history shows that he later failed to appear for scheduled trial dates on July 1, 2025, and Dec. 2, 2025, leading to bench warrants that were later served. The record also shows that he was later ordered held without bond following bail review hearings in 2026.
